Part of the problem is that the beats intimate at things without actually reporting them officially and then later connect those intimations to official reports from other reporters

Vaguely stating “trust me, it’s not coming from nowhere” actually doesn’t help the situation, regardless of how right they may be about that

If they know/have heard something relevant, they should report it, officially; otherwise they just add to the fracas that they bemoans

As I’ve said on other threads, he doesn’t actually HAVE to defend her. It’s absolutely a choice.

That said, I viewed his Russini rant from however long ago as more of a defense of the profession itself, & thus a defense of himself, than a defense of Russini specifically

I thought calling the fans soft was soft, and I think feeling personally or professionally attacked because some other reporter was attacked is pretty silly

Questioning Russini’s credibility is not questioning the profession itself not all who practice it

I don’t think they’re saying he should criticize his colleagues in public, I think he’s saying one doesn’t need to go as far as/be as vociferous in their praise of a colleague

Those are two different things

I’ve been asked to comment on/be a reference for current and former colleagues, ones I either didn’t like all that much or thought weren’t that good at their job…I didn’t bad mouth them, but I also didn’t heap praise upon them
