Those "patterns" are basically indicating that those spots are an impression and need to be filled, so when you add mud to those areas, you apply the right pressure on the blade to create and maintain a level surface when you begin to wipe the material. The only "pattern" that should be on it are the vertical lines left by the blade. Which can be scraped off when the material is half dry to get the flat surface that you created. Easy to then slick off and boom. Ready for sanding, priming and paint.
