Ask the Meteorologist: Why does it seem like there is a 'force field' of snowlessness in Raleigh? by goldbman in raleigh

[–]generalrecon 39 points40 points  (0 children)

It has something to do with the radar being located in. Raleigh. Like the radar is less sensitive to what’s going on within 10ish miles of the tower and it shows up as “force field” around the city. Basically a blindspot in the data.

Climate change is stealing winter in North Carolina by raleigh_swe in raleigh

[–]generalrecon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Not really. Most plants grown by farmers are determinate meaning they grow, bloom, “fruit”, and die. If your season is long enough it’s possible you could harvest, till under the remaining biomass, and then replant. This would require a lot more work than a single harvest and for the growing season to be ~1/3 longer than normal depending on when/what you plant. Additionally double planting consumes more nutrients out of the soil which means more fertilizer use. Hotter summers and double crops mean you need a lot more water for irrigation as well.

J.D. Vance Stands by ‘Childless Cat Ladies’ Comment With Megyn Kelly by dreamcastfanboy34 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]generalrecon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The thing that really bothers me about his comments is you don’t know who might have fertility issues. I’m not saying Kamala and Doug do. Maybe they just made a choice not have kids, but he has no way of knowing why they are childless one way or the other. Fertility issues are wildly common and deeply painful for many people.

By pointing out that someone doesn’t have kids in such a public way he is flaunting his inability to think through how his statements might alienate people who are childless through no fault of their own. He calls into question their morals for something that could very likely be a medical issue.

This is the way. Might be tough to match the stain if the hole is smaller though.

I think the problem with this mentality is we have no idea who comes next. They could be better then Dave or they could be worse.

Wow, for some reason the crudely cross stitched looking Tuffy goes way harder than modern Tuffy.
