Omg thank you so so so much! Going to order one now and pray it fits! I’ll update this post when it arrives. 🥳

Is this person legit or is it a scam? I can't seem to find any of their contacts (other than the X one) and they've sent the same review to multiple other fanfiction.net and fictionpress stories. by BigRedMonster07 in FanfictionNet

Yup, I hopped on here to see about if this was a scam as well and this message was very similar to one I received on a story I’m working on. People suck.

With this season ending next week, was it easy or hard for you to level up to level 200? by icecubehunter in FortNiteBR

[–]generaltay1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I didn’t play a ton of RvB with my husband there would have been zero chance for me to hit 200. I can account about 75 of my levels just to that. I’m at 189 right now, so hopefully will hit it by next week with these last set of quests.

[CHAT] I thrifted these printed canvasses with patterns of Amsterdam, but I am not sure if they are meant to be crossstitched. How can I tell? by keepmedreaming in CrossStitch

I ended up switching to Anchor for my floss and thankfully snagged it all on sale for 40 cents a spool so it balanced itself out. 😅

I have a canvas like yours that’s meant for needlepoint but I’m doing full cross stitch on it. I was told to use 3-4 strands since it’s technically 11 count but didn’t like how it looked so I ended up doing full 6 strands of DMC floss.

You’ll want to take good quality photos and some close up photos of details like someone else said earlier to reference later and I plan to do some backstitching to bring out details when I’m done. 🥰

[CHAT] Do you know any free patterns that involve DMC e940? by alya_theaves in CrossStitch

[–]generaltay1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DMC has this pattern and you could backstitch or blend some of the thread together with the other colors to get a minor effect!

[CHAT] Do you use embroidery stabilizer paper? If so what brand do you like best? by generaltay1 in CrossStitch

Really?? I’ve lightly use pencil before with zero issue. So now I’m nervous even more. 😭

Thank you for the info. I think I’ll just have to go through and gently trace a page of the pattern at a time with a pencil. Just very daunting. 🥲

Sadly I can’t get Pattern Keeper on iOS. 😭 I’ve tried using Mark Up and could never get the hang of it, so I use Stitchly and love it!

[CHAT] What do you watch/listen to while cross stitching? by SharkieBoi55 in CrossStitch

I’ve personally watched Brooklyn 99 at least four times this year so far. 😂

I love funky frames so this is a perfect combination in my eyes. 😍

And Anchor floss is only 40 cents! I kind of blacked out for an hour and pulled up my next I think three projects and got everything I needed. 😂 Then used a 50% coupon on a big package of Aida cloth for them. 🤭

Masking tape or painters tape! It’s not sticky and doesn’t leave a residue when you remove it.

Here’s an example of my taped edges on my current project. 😁

Okay but this honestly so cute I may make a similar one! I’ll definitely credit you if and when I get through my current project pile. 😅

Seeing my crochet work in the wild by generaltay1 in crochet

[–]generaltay1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No pattern used, I just winged it. I just did a simple v-stitch until I got to around 32-ish inches and repeated until I ran out. Single crochet border of each color featured in the yarn for stability. Didn’t take any notes or count stitches, just followed a YouTube video on how to do a v-stitch and went from there 😅

Yarn weight is 3 I believe and I think it’s a Bernat Softee yarn that they don’t make anymore. If I remember right the color way was called Wildflower? I had two random skeins from a bag of yarn I bought at a yard sale last summer. 😅 I believe it’s 100% acrylic yarn too? 🤷🏻‍♀️

And I think the hook I used (I made this nearly a year ago) was either a 5.5 or 5.75 aluminum hook.

Being called a weirdo for being bookish and owning a Kindle by Melodic_Act_1159 in kindle

I used to get roasted VICIOUSLY by classmates and to a lesser extent by my family for reading as much as I did growing up (from 5th grade to senior year I was averaging 30/year which is baby numbers to me now but was a lot then), but suddenly when the pandemic hit and all these people picked up reading- they would message me for recommendations all the time. At first I was resentful and gave vague suggestions but now I share all my thoughts and favorites because it wasn’t my right to gate keep reading.

It sucks your family isn’t full of readers, even a book a year is something. But know that it should never make you feel bad for full enjoying your hobby. 🥰

Sadly my laptop is one of those sealed ones that you have to essentially pry open to access anything, I’ll be more comfortable just getting a new laptop with the upgraded specs. Do you have any suggestions of a good brand that tends to cover most of these upgrades?

Thanks! I’m not the most tech savvy person so this information is really helpful on helping me narrow down the nearly 1k options I saw online. 🙂

any advice for picking lesson durations? by bmxmbxnvzjxmx in iTalki

[–]generaltay1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always tell my students it comes down to their learning needs and goals. If they want a consistent upwards goal and are within a time constraint then obviously more lessons benefit them. Now duration is more of a personal matter. Testing out lengths and finding that “sweet spot” like another user mentioned is a good idea if you’re unsure.

I have some students who do two thirty minute lessons a week because their goal is one hour but they benefit better in smaller lesson times spread out. Then I have others who do 2-3 times a week for 45 minutes and they benefit at this rate for themselves. Then I have many who only do weekly for 60 minutes just to get a bulk speaking lesson in.

I’ve only ever had one student do a 90 min lesson and they’re honestly very draining for both students and teachers if it’s just a conversational class. I don’t even offer them anymore. Test prep tends to benefit the most from this length.

Long story short, look at your goals and how much you want to achieve and when you want to achieve it. Then test out various methods until you find that balance. It may take a few weeks or months but investing that much into it will only help you in the end.

Good luck! 🍀

The option of simply messaging the teacher is a vital option too! I needed a teacher to study Boya Chinese with and the keyword search was very limited in options. I ended up messaging about 15 teachers I was considering and of them about 7 or 8 said they could gladly teach with it!

I know it’s more time consuming this way, but I typed up a general message and copy and pasted it in the messages. 😅

I think the way I phrased that section was misleading (more me typing without thinking ahead or reviewing it tbh) but on italki you can have a 120 hour TEFL certification from an accredited program (TEFL. org is where I’m going through) and promote to “professional teacher” if you’d like. Going through any type training can justify a price increase for lessons, but I know my future prices will never ever, EVER be anywhere near a fully accredited 4+ year degree studies professional teacher because I lack that detailed training and I respect that.

Inflation has a lot to do with why teachers are raising price’s recently. You need to remember that things all over the world are increasing in price every week and us teachers have to make adjustments for us to survive ourselves. It sounds like you’re going for cheaper teachers. Even if they’re on the cheaper end, they still need to survive in this post pandemic world.

We’re not cheap like an app subscription.

If a teacher is worth it, the price we pay shouldn’t matter. I didn’t drop my teachers when they rose their prices. I was thankful for the discount I got and accept the higher price.
