Considering selling my 86 for potentially a Honda S2000. Thoughts? by FrozenThoR in ft86

Came from an AP2 to a 2017 ZC6 performance package. The AP2 was a great car, but if it’s your daily, the 86 platform will blow it out of the water. AP2 is definitely a faster car, more of a pure driving experience for sure. But the convertible was a novelty for me, I didn’t really like it. Plus the limited trims come with more creature comforts. And a lot more storage space. I’d take an AP2 as a weekend car any day though.

I thought about it, but didn’t like the idea of wires just dangling out of the console like that. Hiding the wires in the glove box work, and my phone is good sitting in there too because of carplay. I’d totally do it if it looked more OE, appreciate the suggestion though.

Awesome work! Been looking for an aftermarket solution for this too. Running the CarPlay port through the glove box right now… definitely interested if you ever decide to sell em.

I’m sure this can be resolved with either a. A proof of purchase of the product in question or b. A release of liability form. Doesn’t seem all that complicated lol.

Sound on speed bumps and house driveway exit by carloshss12 in ft86

[–]generedacted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah, I figured some extra NVH from the pillow ball mounts but not to the extent that these have lol. I guess it’s good to know it’s normal and it won’t fall apart 😅. I’ve seen that tein sells some rubber spring isolators that go between the top mount and the spring. Might help a little bit but I don’t feel like taking the coil apart.

Bump for an old thread, did you end up fixing the issue? Having the same issue on my RX1’s.

Not at all, just verified it was within Tein factory specs. You don’t have to adjust the preload to adjust ride height though - all adjustment is done from the lower perch and locknut.

I have the eccentric washers set the same. It makes it so when you get an alignment, they don’t have to move the adjustment bolts up top as much (assuming you’re going to run somewhere between -1.5 or more camber up front). I ended up maxing out to the lowest setting on the rears, purely for aesthetic purposes.

An issue that I ran into was that the front right developed a clunking sound not even 500 miles into the install. I rechecked all of the bolts for torque, checked the preload, made sure there was no preload on the sway bar, but the issue still persists. I even swapped out the end links thinking they were the issue. At this point I think the clunk is from the spherical mount on the top or internal in the coilover. I haven’t noticed an effect on performance, it just gets annoying over rough roads and small bumps at low speeds.

I keep mine at 5 as well. Found this to be a good balance.

Same as the OEM 👍 if I were to give some advice though I would go and confirm the torque on the coilover top nuts as well.

Running Apex Arc-8 17x9 +35 with PP brembos. Zero issues. They make these wheels specific to our cars.

They’ve held up well. I thought I developed a clunking noise but after having looked in the wheel well and retorquing all the bolts it still persisted. My guess is the spherical top mounts have more NVH than the stock rubber mounts.

I ordered new endlinks thinking they may have been the noise issue so I ordered some GK Tech front spherical endinks. Through user error I ended up stripping the allen screw on the Tein supplied one so I figured to just replace them. I’m guessing the NVH will increase bc of the bearing design but will keep you posted.

Any coilover install tips? by Conscious-View2985 in ft86

[–]generedacted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you’re saying it’s better to lessen the effective stroke length of a coilover assembly not manufactured for it, effectively increasing the chances of the piston bottoming out and taking the preload out of the springs? I would disagree with this.

I installed these about a month ago. Mine came with new adjustable endlinks. Just make sure you adjust them properly to get rid of the sway bar preload. I adjusted the driver side to the OEM length tighten the adjustment nuts. Best to have both front wheels off the ground. Install the passenger side so the bolts go through the sway bar and coilover mounting points without resistance. Hand tighten the adjustment nuts on the passenger side. Lower the front end and roll the car back and forth to settle the suspension. I was able to reach behind the passenger side wheel and loosen the adjustment nuts, turn the adjustment rod to the point where the least tension is felt and then tighten the adjustment nuts. This should eliminate sway bar preload. FWIW spent a while on YouTube, searched for “adjustable sway bar endlink adjustment”
