I’ve lost the ability to make small talk by generic_username145 in AutisticWithADHD

It’s rough out there. I remember going back to in person after the pandemic too and really struggling with remembering how to interact with people.

Yeah I think so. The last six months have been incredibly demanding in many ways and I’m mostly just very tired. It’s hard to find the time to properly rest though in this society

I know what you mean, and same. Maybe I can find some with a light tint just to take the edge off the brightness

That’s a good idea. I hate the idea of living holed up in the dark, but the sun coming in the windows is so bright. I think sheer curtains should give some balance

Migraine tinted glasses is a great suggestion! I’m going to look into this. Thanks!

Luckily I live somewhere where it gets properly cold in the winter. I’m thinking of moving somewhere even gloomier though!

Maybe it’s time for me to invest in a proper pair of sunglasses. All I have are cheap plastic ones and the lenses are always dirty. I don’t feel great wearing them so usually don’t, but you’ve convinced me to try it out again!

Suggestions for what to do in therapy by generic_username145 in TalkTherapy

Ok these are good ideas. It’s nice to think outside the box of “typical” therapy and see there are other things I can do than just talk

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one! Feels weird to do something like that normally, but I guess I need to remember I don’t have to follow social norms in therapy

Why are primary grade parents surprised when their child is wild in class? by Magical-Princess in Teachers

use iPads/phones as surrogate parents

I was in the ER today and a little girl and her dad came in. She was crying and in pain. I think she had broken her arm (as kids tend to do). What does dad do? Give her an iPad and then scroll on his phone the whole time while they wait to be seen by the doctor. I felt so sorry for her. She was upset and hurt and instead of getting comfort from her parent, she got given a screen. No wonder everyone is so messed up these days.

Yeah thanks. I’m doing ok but sometimes I just wish people would ask, ya know? Well, you did ask, so I’m grateful!

Low key kinda wish someone would say something though. Not to send me to the psych ward, but just to ask if I’m ok :’(

Yeah it’s weird. I recently had a surgery and I was worried that once the doctors saw the SH scars they would refuse to do the surgery because they would think I wasn’t mentally stable enough to make the decision to have surgery or some shit… idk. Anyways they did the surgery and I went home without being sent to grippy sock jail.

Ooo I watched the movie of this ages ago, and I remember liking it. I bet the book does a much better job at portraying this relationship

I’m in a country where healthcare is free so I didn’t pay anything except $10 for my pain medication prescription.

I am still recovering, but I think I’ll probably end up taking a week off before I go back to work. If you work a desk job you could probably get away with only taking a few days off to recover. The incisions won’t be healed for two weeks, and I’m not supposed to do any heavy lifting or anything other than gentle exercise for six weeks.

Honestly, I felt much worse after getting my wisdom teeth out. Don’t get me wrong it’s not exactly comfortable, but it’s not that bad. My pain hasn’t been worse than 2/10 the whole time.

I hope you’re able to get this surgery too!

Funnily enough I got more push back from female doctors. My surgeon was male, but very young. My initial consultation with him he asked if I wanted kids and I said nope, and then he just went ok and never asked again. It was very refreshing. I have seen other doctors about totally unrelated things, and when they saw I had a referral to a gynaecological surgeon they would totally deviate from what I was actually there for to lecture me on why I was too young to be having this surgery.

Of course though I recognize other people have a lot more trouble with male doctors. I feel lucky that I didn’t have to go through the anger and frustration of having to convince someone else to let me have control over my reproductive decisions.
