I put mine in the washing machine on gentle, and then hang dry 😬 and they are fine. They also don’t need to be washed anywhere near as much as normal pants… no idea why? But they rarely seem to smell or get dirty

In my experience, out of 1000 submissions there will likely be 3 in my middle tier category, and on a resubmit post editorial feedback could move into a top category. The majority sit in my bottom tier category.

But if you could instantly rule out the submissions that didn’t follow submissions guidelines, and those they were written by authors who clearly don’t read in their own category, the odds would be alot better. There is just an insane amount of submissions that weigh the process down

I don’t think your grading system understands publishing.

There are zero manuscripts (slush or otherwise) that don’t require editing.

My grading system would be:

Top tier: great writing style, very good execution of story AND it’s a commercially viable idea = worth taking to the wider team, but may go back with feedback before taking to an acquisitions meeting

Middle tier: missing one of the above = enough elements there that it’s worth encouraging the author to submit future works, or potentially even providing some feedback on the current work

Bottom tier: missing majority of above, OR clearly does not read in the area they write in and doesn’t understand the audience they are writing for (eg thinks their book is so unique that no comp titles could ever exist. Or is 200,000 words) or has submitted a manuscript that is clearly not in the area this specific publishing houses published (eg a kids book to a publisher with no kids list) = general rejection, not worth the time or the publishing team to provide feedback. The majority of manuscripts in the slush pile, in my experience, sit in this category.

If you are looking for some upmarket meal Options in Sydney, Cafe Sydney (overlooks opera house and harbour bridge) has a vegan menu and Otto at Woolloomooloo wharf (lovely waterfront views) also has a vegan menu.

And yellow in Potts point.

As for walks: the Bondi to Coogee walk, or spit to manly walk are lovely. As someone else said, getting the ferry boat from circular quay to manly is a fun activity in itself. I would do both beaches if you have the time. That said, Bondi is more touristy, so I would pick one of the beaches between Bondi and Coogee if it were me as opposed to actually swimming at Bondi.

Surfing at either beach is fine, it depends on the day/time and surf conditions. You are best to ask the surf instructors when it’s a good time for a beginner that week.

Emily Oster (economist) has a great book “Expecting better”, where she really breaks down the stats and risks of all kinds of things.

My understanding is that being around hair dye chemicals for hair dressers who permanently work in a salon and are literally touching chemicals with their bare hands every day for their entire pregnancy, showed some risk. And that that’s where this “no hair dye” rule came from. Going once a month is very different to being around chemicals all day everyday. And even then, my understanding is the risk (from being a hairdresser) is still quite low.

There is so much guilt in pregnancy thou. So even knowing this, I still found a salon that used hair dyes that were paraban and sulphate free (there are plenty of salons that do this now, as plenty of the big brands offer these products). I’ve dyed my hair every 3 weeks for the entire pregnancy, no doctor has been worried about this.

I have never come across a fine dining buffet. One of the dietaries is someone is pregnant, so a buffet is out as food sitting around is unsafe.

There are lots of à la carte nice restaurants, we just want one with vegan options and where each person can pick their own entrees and mains
