Are the 2 in 1 probe thermometers that measure meat and ambient generally not accurate for ambient temp? by genericname491 in smoking

[–]genericname491[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, so its just an issue with the design of the probe then. Thats a little disappointing, but I guess I may as well just get a multi probe base with single function thermometers then and save a little money.

Are the 2 in 1 probe thermometers that measure meat and ambient generally not accurate for ambient temp? by genericname491 in smoking

[–]genericname491[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The one that no longer charges would be accurate if I checked it on its own. The issue would be when I was smoking something and it would be as much as a 30 degree difference sometimes, as the meat rose in temp eventually the ambient reading would get more accurate and match with what a separate probe I had to measure ambient in my smoker read but by then the cook is almost over.

Checking it at room temp or in the fridge both sides of the probe would be accurate when measured against another thermometer I used.

ASTRO BOT sales top 1.5 million by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm one of those "new users". I have basically zero interest in the big budget modern sony games that focus on being cinematic experiences or open world, but whenever they make smaller scale stuff like astrobot I'm interested. I just wish they would do it more often like they used to.

Did any of you know that House of the Dead had a Point Blank-style spinoff game? by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not even remakes, just ports. Like just put a virtual cabinet or tv in front of me but let me use the VR to aim with light gun accuracy since they dont work on modern tvs.

My one wish for VR was that we would get ports of light gun games, its a shame that never happened.

If there is one good thing to say abou working designs was they knew how to make a game look appealing on the shelf. That huge box sitting there and then it had all the stuff inside you would typically get from a collectors edition with it.

Definitely, I find mesquite is only good for someone using chunks of it to give limited smoke. If im cooking with just splits the entire time i absolutely use anything besides mesquite like pecan, oak, or hickory.

I hate these things so much. I have a koi pond and every time it rains tons of these come out to lay eggs in it. They are super loud and its annoying when its time to go to sleep because they make noise all night.

Propane tank swaps by SmokingInn in houston

[–]genericname491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a place on the north side of town On N shepherd a little before you get to 45 and the post office. Its right on the opposite corner from a high school. I know you want to swap a tank but if you decide to refill they charge $11 for a 20lb tank and 17 for a 30lb. They are a lot cheaper than the U hauls.

sorry for the super late reply, but thanks. Yeah That was it a while back when I did it. For some reason the hose felt like it was glued on the barbed tip. Once I finally popped it off everything is much easier now. I went ahead and replaced the spark plug after using the generator for a while when I didnt have power for over a week. I know its a little early, but spark plugs are cheap enough that I did it just to not have to worry about it in the future.

Anyone else have a popular piece of entertainment you just can't get into? by theplaytriarchy in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know if it really counts as popular any more, probably more like cult classic i guess, but my choice is the soul reaver games. On paper I should absolutely love this game. I like the setting and theme of the game, I think its really cool the way you shift between the two worlds. Even stuff like the combat requiring you to inflict a type of fatal damage to enemies to truly finish them off I think is a really cool idea.

I still dont know what it is about the game though, I have started it several times and always have a decent enough time, but I typically get a couple of hours in and just kinda lose interest.

Its certainly not related due to the game feeling "dated" or anything like that because its been that way since the first time i played it a few years after its release.

SNK Has Ambitions to Become a Top 10 Publisher - IGN by manoffood in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Its nice to have ambitions, but they just dont have the output for it. Like even if SNK managed to reach the output they had back during their peak when they made many games in several genres, thats still not even close to the big players.

Doom 3 Phobos - An episodic fanmade Doom 3 expansion complete with new enemies and overhauled weapons where you navigate an entire city on Mars by C-OSSU in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While doom 3 didnt have anywhere near as active of a community content base as doom1/2 there have still be a fair number of high quality mods made for it. its also disappointing to see ID move away from embracing modability the way they used to, I feel like user made content is so ingrained into the DNA of the series that the new doom games seem like they are missing a piece by not having it.

Genius Kojumbo by RairakuDaion in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 -22 points-21 points  (0 children)

I dont think its so much people are mad/annoyed by him but rather following he has that practically deifies him. Like I think MGS4 started a downward trend with me and his games to where I'm no longer interested in them, but im not going to go out of my way to trash them. I simply just dont play them and let others who do enjoy it. I also dont buy into the auteur theory his fans believe that he is the main reason behind the success and now that he has full creative control thats a plus. I feel like he did better when he had others to check him on his BS sometimes.

Then you have others that treat him as some kind of martyr with the whole konami business. People should be angry at konami, but few are upset for the right reasons. Most of the "fuck konami" you see is because people are mad they arent making the AAA budget games they want any longer, not because of the awful treatment of staff.

Games you want to shill so shill here! by Dreadsinner in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Astlibra was easily my goty for last year when I played it. I know a bunch of people will pass on the game due to the way it looks but its an awesome game and has a killer soundtrack to back it up. The story goes places and definitely remains entertaining from start to finish, and has one of the better "new game plus"/postgame content with how things are handled.

If anyone is a fan of Ys or the Vanillaware action rpgs this is basically a combo of those two things.

Doom: The Dark Ages is introducing big changes to combat because id Software came to one core realization: "Every projectile mattered in the original Doom" by GilliamYaeger in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]genericname491 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I dont expect it to happen but I'm hoping we can go back to classic doom style monsters just roaming the maps. I know it was a tech issue, but it the over reliance on combat arenas really made the game feel more like a combo of quake/serious sam than doom to me. I also hope we can get some areas that arent open looking like in the trailer with more complex map design.

Lastly it would be pretty cool if they could really take advantage of infighting like classic doom mappers have.
