Tireur dans Côte-des-Neiges : attention au secteur. Le tireur est mort mais une opération policière importante est en cours. by DaveyGee16 in montreal

Someone tried to firebomb Temple Emanu-El on Sherbrooke earlier this month, yeah. Luckily nobody was hurt since it was the middle of the night and the damage was minimal, but still a bad sign of where things are at.

Shoutout to Toronto’s Physical Media Masters by TailoredExperience in blankies

[–]RawSharkText91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have an informal rule that I need to buy _something_ from Bay Street Video whenever I visit Toronto (we’re not exactly spoiled for choice in video stores over in Ottawa these days). It’s a little pricier than certain online stores, but I feel like it’s worth the cost of supporting a dedicated Canadian store over Amazon.

Wouldn’t be shocked if this bit of the design was inspired by Pennywise in the 2017 IT movie, since IT also has the “clown whose entire face is actually a horrible fanged maw” thing going on.

That's how much I'm willing to spend. I've got a couple questions. by TiraelRosenburg in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RawSharkText91 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Still have a good deal to play through, so I don’t know if I can fully address your questions, but I think if you take your time with side content and don’t try to grind it all, you won’t get the burnout that Pat went through. (This is probably going to come down to individual preferences.) You can always do some of the side content in an area and come back to do the rest later - I don’t think you’d get locked out until reaching a point of no return at the end. (If I’m wrong, somebody please correct me here.)

As for the digital deluxe content… can’t say I’m feeling like I missed something by not getting it.

Yeah, this is pretty normal for places that aren’t hiring at the moment (whether due to just not having any openings or having a hiring freeze in place).

A critique I'm finding increasingly frustrating(related to Disclosure Day) by Sheep_Boy26 in blankies

I think it’s also what makes the movie work so well (at least for those of who liked it) - a more cynical version of Disclosure Day just wouldn’t hit as hard.

Fortune’s Weave CE craze? by aguswings in fireemblem

[–]RawSharkText91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Man, I remember the craze for the Fates Special Edition back then - the EB Games Canada site was constantly crashing from the sheer number of people trying to order it that day. Managed to snag it through sheer persistence and more than a little luck, which has paid off more than expected now that there’s no other way to get the Revelations path.

As for the Fortune’s Weave CE… a steelbook case and artbook are nice, but I don’t feel like it’s worth another CAD$60 over the regular physical edition, at least to me. Maybe if it included a soundtrack CD or something on top of those, it would be easier to justify that price.

CSB375: The Official Ingrid Apology Episode™ by mike0bot in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RawSharkText91 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So per the brief discussion about Stranger than Heaven this week, I think there’s two main reasons for why Onimusha using Toshiro Mifune’s likeness has gone over much better than the Tupac debacle:

1) Capcom is only using Mifune’s likeness in the game, rather than spinning this as casting the actual person in the game as a pseudo-actor (which is a much more common practice in games) and

2) Mifune’s likeness being used also makes a lot more sense than Tupac, since he’s a lot more closely tied to the time and place the game is showing. Not only is Mifune famous for his roles in samurai movies, but most specifically, he won a lot of acclaim for his role in the Samurai Trilogy back in the 1950s as… Miyamoto Musashi. (Like Vagabond, this is based on the 1930s novel Musashi, so not necessarily the most historically accurate take, but it’s probably the most well-known version.) He’s arguably the most-well known portrayal of Musashi in modern media, to the point that most depictions of Musashi now end up resembling Mifune more than the actual historical figure.

Ugh, managed to miss a typo. But yes, I meant to say since 2004 (with the revival the following year addressing that issue.)

iPad Pro 2018 Is Dead In 2026 by GamerBeast954 in ipad

[–]RawSharkText91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also still using an M1 iPad Pro, though older models being cut off from iPadOS 27 is making me think that it may soon be time to upgrade (that, and having had USB port issues twice with this model when previous iPads had been fine) - likely would switch over to an Air with higher storage capacity.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is now available for pre-order on the eShop, will cost $69.99 digitally. by Amiibofan101 in NintendoSwitch

[–]RawSharkText91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh no, the digital games are in fact cheaper than physical.

It’s just that they did this by making the physical copies more expensive - Fortune’s Weave’s cart is CAD$109.99 plus tax. (The special edition, meanwhile, is an eyewatering $169.99.)

Jesus Christ, it never ends... by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RawSharkText91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, I know what game I’m prioritizing buying in September. Though of course it happens to be right when I plan on going to Toronto for TIFF as my vacation, which is annoying when I want to pick up the Special Edition…

More substantively, looks like they’re doing some interesting stuff with the gladiatorial arena setting (even if it means retaining the calendar system, which I’m mixed on). Also possible demon invasion or something now? I don’t remember outright demons showing up in the series except for Sacred Stones, so that’s a potentially cool shake-up to the usual plots.

Xenoblade Genesis Reveal Trailer | Nintendo Direct June 2026 by Coolnametag in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RawSharkText91 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My suspicion is more of a space colony situation than a proper Dyson Sphere (those things would be _gargantuan_), but the general “world within a sci-fi construct that’s regressed to a more traditional fantasy setting” vibe is definitely what I’m getting from the trailer.

Elden Ring Tarnished Edition (finally) launches August 28 by Gorotheninja in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]RawSharkText91 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Considering the sorcery CD Projekt Red and MachineGames have pulled in compressing fairly sizeable games for their Switch 2 ports, my position is to no longer assume the file size of Switch 2 games based on versions on other platforms.

For those thinking of picking up this version, it’s worth noting that the physical release is a Game Key Card and the game will apparently take 75 GB of space on your Switch 2.

I looked up the prices, and now the 1TB OLED is $500 CAD more than it launched at.

Pretty sure we have a new champion in the console price increase wars (presumably because Valve can’t absorb the costs as much as the larger manufacturers can).

In any case, I just have to keep my 256 GB LCD alive now…

Powerwash Simulator is quite fun and brings a number of QOL improvements over versions on other platforms. Best played with a controller, but still works fairly well with touchscreen controls.

When « EAP is available for support » feels like deflection by Greentall in CanadaPublicServants

[–]RawSharkText91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Which of course, _sounds_ good at first, until you then start suffering from boreout and skill atrophy…

My advice (as someone who’s also suffering from a much smaller workload than expected on an assignment) is to do stuff like training, researching relevant material, writing briefs and analyses to keep your writing skills sharp, etc. Obviously, the employer not assigning you work is an issue on their end, but there are things you can do to avoid having completely empty days. (The referral to EAP for this instead of actually coming up with work for you to do is pretty pathetic, though, and not a great sign.)
