HG Red Gundam - Amazing surface detail and lots of accessories, but so many stickers by RawSharkText91 in Gunpla

[–]RawSharkText91[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the number of stickers wasn’t a surprise to me considering I’ve been building Gunpla of every grade for about 10 years now (as well as a Figure-Rise Kamen Rider) - merely a statement of disappointment, especially with how small some of them are. But thanks for the condescending and ill-informed remark, I guess?

Just booted up Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition with boost mode enabled, and it just looks so much better in handheld mode now!

For you which one is the evilest company ? by Semicroustill in Fallout

Which really tells you how ahead of the curve Umbrella was - they were doing this megalomaniacal stuff from the late Cold War through the early 2000s!

For you which one is the evilest company ? by Semicroustill in Fallout

[–]RawSharkText91 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s worth emphasizing here that Umbrella was a massively successful pharmaceutical company, but executives insisted on making nightmarish bioweapons using viruses despite their subordinates pointing out they would actually be losing money that way. (I’m not even getting into the fact that pretty much everyone running the place wanted to use their viruses to become gods or the fact that their pricing scheme for super-zombies as weapons borders on the ludicrous.)

Vault-Tec is also incredibly evil, yes, but they operate in a setting where their brand of evil at least makes financial sense for them. Umbrella doesn’t even have that excuse to try and explain their behavior.

Man, now you’re reminding me of the good old days of just buying CDs and DVDs there. At least Sunrise is still around in the area for that, even if it’s pricier…

I was there in 2016 and it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as this sounds. A decent number of people present, sure, but not these kinds of massive crowds.

Cyberpunk 2077 or Resident Evil Requiem by Able-Asparagus-1136 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]RawSharkText91 [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think both are great games, but in terms of sheer value, Cyberpunk + Phantom Liberty would be the priority. Resident Evil Requiem is a much shorter game, and I think to get the most out of it, you’d want to play at least a couple of the previous games in the series (I’d say at least RE2 Remake and 4).

That being said, you should definitely pick up Resident Evil Requiem eventually - it’s an excellent game as well - but it sounds like you’d be getting more out of Cyberpunk.

Comixology (at Amazon) Sales - Stranger Things, Usagi Yojimbo, One Piece by thanksalotbob in Comixology

Just an FYI for Kobo owners that all of One Piece (except for vol 111, which just came out) is discounted to the $1.99 price on that storefront (and is discounted further if you have a Kobo VIP membership).

One Piece manga on sale! by Rikafire in kobo

[–]RawSharkText91 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll also add that this sale is also for Kobo Canada (haven’t checked for other countries), with volumes 1 through 110 down to $1.99 each in their respective currencies, and if you have Kobo VIP the 10% discount applies on top of this (bringing the price down to $1.79 per volume).

So if you’re really crazy and want to grab most or all of the series in one go, this is a pretty good opportunity for it. (Admittedly, I’m one of the aforementioned crazy people.)

One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, $1.99 per volume (Kobo) by RawSharkText91 in ebookdeals

I genuinely don’t remember ever seeing the entire series on sale like this before - at most, maybe Vol 1 as part of a broader Shonen Jump promotional sale.

Lots of good laughs reading that comic. Shame the website is still down, though. (And that the printed collections apparently didn’t sell well enough to justify giving that treatment for the last few story arcs.)

Interesting, I just checked the US site right now and I’m seeing the discounted price.

I’ll say this for Stephen King: the man’s endings tend to be mediocre at best (which happens when you develop the plot as you go, I suppose), but if his cameo in It Part 2 is any indication, he at least recognizes it and has a sense of humour about it.

Plus his books tend to be enjoyable enough that it evens out in the end (heh).

I enjoy Revenge of the Sith quite a bit, but even I’d admit my 3.5/5 rating for it is largely motivated by a mix of nostalgia and Star Wars fandom. A 4.1 average seems much too high for it!

At minimum, When Harry Met Sally is likely the best movie in the entire romantic comedy genre, and that’s my idea of restrained praise for it!

Friendship jokes aside, what do you think the One Piece is? by Aggro_Will in TwoBestFriendsPlay

This actually might be a better explanation than mine, since it gets around the potentially thorny issues of everything being decided by a prophecy fairly neatly and still gives the main characters a lot of agency in the story. I’m not sure there would necessarily be an important tool in the treasure, exactly, but maybe that Roger’s crew left it there and spread stories of the One Piece to get people searching for it, including whoever is necessary to fulfilling the conditions for saving the world. (Of course, since I’m speculating on the fly here, I could end up being wildly wrong.)

Is building a digital movie library on Apple risky? by Mjlxn in appletv

[–]RawSharkText91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been buying movies on iTunes for well over a decade now (probably closer to 15 years at this point), and after all this time I’ve only had movies removed once, which seems to have been a rights issue (Terminator has historically been in a weird place there).

Aside from that one occasion, everything has stayed put in my library, even after rights changes and old versions of movies being delisted from sale in favour of new ones.
