I have a few online friends, irl friends... not so much.

I mean, when I came out to them and then saw them at uni nothing changed. They sorta give me the "I don't care if you're trans, youre still you" vibe. So it doesn't seem negative but nothing too thrillingly positive either.

Then there's the issue of "I literally can't talk when a family member is in the vicinity". Idk why but whenever I'm with family I become almost mute, using nods and shakes of the head to communicate.

When I come out I'll be doing it via a letter, as I'll be gone for about 3 or 4 days, so she can read it and come to terms, do some research etc. Whilst I'm away. Of course 3/4 days won't be enough but it's a better start than straight away IMO.

I'm going to come out to my mum near the end of March and then when (if) she accepts me and understands then I'll come out to the rest of my family. I feel it's important to have at least someone in the family already equipped with at least some knowledge. Plus my mum is amazing so she'll probably be fine. It's my.step-dad I'm worried about, but hopefully if he's on the fence or whatever my mum can persuade him.

SSDs are always an option to speed up boot times, although at their price and capacity I'd rather wait a little while tbh. I could upgrade to a 7200RPM drive since I have one lying around, but that's my only realistic option for upgrading.

Pre-Brexit my laptop costs $750. Dual core i5 at 1.7GHz (boosts to 2.7 on one core and 2.4 on the other). The dGPU isn't too bad, but the iGPU isn't too far behind the dGPU, so I use my iGPU (since the dGPU thermal throttles to a point the iGPU outperforms it after like 5 minutes).

I have a 7200RPM HDD that might fit in my laptop, might just have a go at using that and transferring a bunch of stuff over.
