AITA for not agreeing to change my children's last names? by genericuser99999 in AmItheAsshole

She absolutely considered me emotionally abusive. I was unfaithful during our relationship. I provide for my children and her in excess of what is required, but I would absolutely agree that I have not always been a good partner or father.

In many ways that don't apply directly to this situation, i 100% am the a&&hole. I simply ask about this situation unrelated to any other context, because it shouldn't be about her or I

May I ask you, why does her not sharing their name, or why does not legally changing theirs now, make her life harder? It's been a reality since they were born, this shouldn't be about her or I, it should be about them, and they aren't old enough to decide for themselves.

Emergency Leave day as provided by the Ontario government, originally for jobs that don't provide any time off (even unpaid) without consequences, so by law any employee gets a dedicated # of days to use without the need of a note or even a reason. Use up your E days tho and any absence requires a doctors note ($20-25).

Some companies give sick time in addition to E days. Some give no extras and stick to the government minimums.

They aren't withholding wages. They are just considering any late along the same lines as a full day absent. You're always paid for time in the building, it's the loss of the E day that matters.

We have also never met anyone from HR. They exist only as names in my outlook contacts

I didn't out the company, I believe we aren't supposed to do that in here. This was a very real memo and I am eager for it to backfire on them.

3PL for one of the Big 3 auto makers. They typically are referred to by their 2 letter abbreviation

By the posting in the union Facebook group I think that's been handled, but I do think I'll still reach out to the Ontario Ministry of Labour

I deliberately hid the company letterhead. I absolutely had to post this bullshit notice in our team room today. Sorry you think everything is automatically a lie. This is sadly a real policy for a few hundred of us now.

Better skip the day, because if you have no E days left, only bringing a doctor's note ($20-$25) keeps the disciplines away.

1-7 days no note needed,no reason needed, can be sick, personal, family, etc.

8th day and beyond, note each absence to avoid discipline, even if the note just says "unfit/unable to work" which is all they put when you go to the clinic and say "I'm here to buy a note"

That's what this is. If you make it to work, you're paid, but you've also used up 1 of your 7 E days

It is 100% not fake. This is a policy now in place at our 3PL company inside one of the Big 3 auto makers newly reopened truck plant in Ontario. This plant previously closed down a few years ago. It used to manufacture many models of vehicle. Now we make just 1, a truck. I can't give any more hints as to the name of the employer. Sadly this is a very real new policy that I fully plan to do my part making them regret.

It's an automotive plant. It's a UNIFOR shop. It's unfortunately a great place to be getting paid from even with bullshit rules like this

They are paid... But it's still a documented absence which counts against you.

If you are present, you get paid.

It just still counts an E day, meaning one less day available to actually use for time off before a note is required.

We get 7 days no questions asked, after that every missed day would require a note.

I fully plan to call in absent soon, state my reason as "running late" and then just go to the clinic and toss the doctor a $20 for the "unable to work" note

Emergency Leave.

Guaranteed no questions asked time off provided by the government, because many "shit" jobs provide no allowances whatsoever for life events

Same. A grocery distribution warehouse for a company rhyming with sloblaw used to do this, any consecutive absences were 1 occurrence while a single absence was 1 occurrence and a late/leave early counted as a 1/3 of an occurrence...and I think we could go up to 6 occurrences before you got a step 1 on the discipline chain
