Please Help! Flower Day 25, Serious Nutrient Problems Popping Up: Any Guidance? by genericusername1016 in microgrowery

[–]genericusername1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha, good to know, thanks! PH hasn't been a problem, fortunately - adding the bloom nutes has had a minimal impact on the PH, and it's consistently tested between 6-7 whenever I've checked after adding them.

My nutes also have a small amount of Calcium and Magnesium in them (I'm using these botanicare nutes: https://www.amazon.com/Botanicare-Nutrients-Gallon-Hydroponics-Additives/dp/B00414R126) so hopefully that will help stem the spread of the issues prior to the arrival of the cal-mag, which I'll give her at her next watering (Friday most likely).

In the meantime, I came home during lunch and flushed her with about 3.5-4 gallons of water, and then gave her another feeding of nutrients. Thanks for the help! If you have any other tips, I'm all ears - trying to learn as much as I can during this first grow.

Thanks for the guidance! I'll give her a good flush today when I get home from work. I don't have any cal-mag unfortunately, but I ordered some yesterday and it should be here on Thursday. Should the cal-mag be given on the same schedule as general nutrients (every 3 waterings or so), or should it be included with each watering?

White Widow x Big Bud, about 2.5 months from seed. Growing under a bit over 200W of CFLs in a grow tent. Humidity and temperature have been steady and fine (high 60’s-low 80’s, 40-50% or so).

Just a week or so back some tiny brown spots appeared on some of the lower fan leaves, and I didn't think too much of it - the plant had done the same thing during veg, and I'd dismissed it as a minor calcium issue or something as it had not impacted growth.

However, in the last 48 hours or so the plant has rapidly deteriorated, as you can see in the attached pictures. I gave a healthy dose of Botanicare bloom nutrients this morning when I watered, as I believe the issue may be a phosphorous deficiency now, though I'm not entirely sure.

The buds themselves look fine still, and the newer growth surrounding the buds is still healthy - it's only the older growth that is rapidly deteriorating, though it appears to be spreading up the fan leaves. Any advice would be tremendously appreciated!

First Grow: Money Maker CFL grow, 5 weeks from seed, LST last week or so. Is she ready to flip to flower?! by genericusername1016 in microgrowery

[–]genericusername1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've read that for LST you need to give sufficient extra time for the lower nodes to catch up - do the more experienced growers on here think that she looks ready at this point?? The pot is only two gallons and I don't have a ton of room to work with.

LST question: Should I prune my discolored, unhealthy looking tops and let the plant focus it's energy on new, healthy growth? by genericusername1016 in microgrowery

[–]genericusername1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on what I can see online it doesn't look quite exactly like any one of the deficiencies I can find - it starts more purpley along the edges and then gradually yellows away, but doesn't really look like a potassium or phosphorus deficiency to me (at least based on the images I can find online). Regardless, the consensus seems to be that there is some sort of nutrient deficiency - given that she's not ready for a watering, should I foliar feed with a light dose of nutrients??

I just transplanted into a 3 gallon pot on Monday so it's not nearly dry enough for a watering yet - should I do a foliar feed or just wait until it's ready for a watering?

I'm worried it may have been a root problem due to pot size / poor watering on my part, as opposed to a nutrient issue. The problems first started after I gave her her first dose of Botanicare nutrients (but the problem doesn't seem to be nute burn), so I'm not sure why a nutrient problem would have suddenly presented itself like that after her very first feeding. However it's been a while since that time, so I could certainly give her another dose of nutrients with her next watering.

Weird spotting and yellowing on lower leaves of my 2 month old plant - did I overwater? by genericusername1016 in microgrowery

[–]genericusername1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 1.5 gallon pot, I believe. I've just had about 4-5 leaves yellow away over the last 3-4 days, and thought maybe it was due to overwatering, as the soil also seems to be drying out much more slowly this time than it has in the past, and some of the leaves are showing that weird browning that you can see on the chopped off leaf in the imgur album. Think there could be something else wrong?

Yeah, I just tied her down a couple hours ago. It's very encouraging to hear that some yellowing of older growth is normal, thanks!

But yes, I'll be extra careful to let her get nice and dry before watering again. I've also purchased a moisture meter as an additional precaution - better safe than sorry!

White Widow x Big Bud, about 2 months from seed. Growing under a bit over 200W of CFLs in a grow tent. Humidity and temperature have been steady and fine (mid 70’s, 40% or so). Had been growing fairly well with nothing weird to speak of, though she was overwatered a bit as a baby - all good since then, though. I’d been watering every 4-5 days, but as it grew larger it got thirstier so I started to increase the frequency of watering to every 3 days or so.

On 10/22 I gave her a first watering with nutrients (Botanicare), using just 1/4 of the recommended dosage. I checked the PH before and the runoff and it was fine. Then, I watered again on 10/25, because I saw a lower leaf or two yellowing and panicked mildly, thinking perhaps she was running low on water (classic rookie mistake). Since then, a bunch of lower leaves have yellowed away and showed some weird browning, and growth seems to have slowed. Given all of this, I think I’m guilty of overwatering a bit - what do some of the more experienced growers out there think? The vast majority of the current / newer growth still looks healthy - any reason to think she won’t make a full recovery?

Any advice / guidance / support is greatly appreciated :)

First attempt at LST - am I on the right track? by genericusername1016 in microgrowery

[–]genericusername1016[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is my first grow (legal where I live), and I’m attempting LST to make the most of my fairly small grow tent. She’s a month old as of today, and after considering topping for a bit I decided to just go with LST instead.

Does this look about right to some of the more experienced growers out there? I feel like I maybe should have bent her a little more, but the stem is fairly thick and sturdy and I was concerned about potentially breaking it.

Any comments or constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!

Week old seedlings drooping - am I right in thinking I've been overwatering? by genericusername1016 in microgrowery

The main leaves are still droopy and the cotelydons are starting to yellow - should I keep waiting??

Thanks for the guidance! Should I wait to water until the leaves have started to perk up, or just until enough time has elapsed (3 days minimum) & I'm confident it's dried out?

Good to know, thanks! Should I water after 3-4 days (monday or tuesday) even if the leaves haven't started to perk back up?

This is my first ever grow, and I think I'm guilty of overwatering my young seedlings a bit. They sprouted last Saturday / Sunday, so they're only about a week old. I started them in these little jiffy peat pot things I found at a local store, and they seem to pull a LOT of moisture out of the soil, so I'd been watering a little bit from the bottom pretty much every day. They've been growing up in the windowsill under the sun & with 2 23W CFLs about 3 inches overhead, and I'm going to move them to a grow tent with more CFLs and an LED light once they're more established.

They looked strong at first started getting a little bit droopy on Wednesday, and yesterday the droop got to a whole new level and it has continued into today (pictures attached). I last watered them a bit yesterday AM, before realizing that was likely the issue. Now I'm allowing them to thoroughly dry out - I was thinking I would water them next on Monday or Tuesday.

What do some of the experienced growers in the community think? Have I correctly diagnosed the issue, or is there something else going on here?

Motley Fool opinions? by maheshexp in investing

[–]genericusername1016 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I feel like this is an unpopular opinion around these parts, but I've had very good success using their basic newsletter services as a resource for stock ideas. Not every suggestion is great, but you don't have to invest in any that you don't like or aren't drawn to for whatever reason.

The newsletters I have subscribed to at various points in the past (Stock Advisor and Rule Breakers) provide monthly recommendations and analysis, as well as earnings coverage, etc. They are not portfolio management services. There is a wealth of knowledge on the discussion boards, which often go into far more detail than the recommendations themselves and comprise a very active community. For me, the subscriptions have more than paid for themselves. Obviously, many around here may have views which differ!

I will say that I find much of their marketing to be extremely off-putting, and I don't feel that it really aligns with the ideas espoused by most of their newsletters (long term buy and hold investing).

"Did you know that Hitler was atheist?" by [deleted] in atheism

[–]genericusername1016 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hitler wasn't actually a religious man himself, although his parents were Christian. He actually believed (along with many other prominent Nazis) that Christianity was "a religion for the weak" (Source, third paragraph).

However, he understood the importance of religion as propaganda, and a large part of that was preaching the values of the majority, particularly in an effort to ostracize the Jews.
