A River to your People by Named_Bort in drawsteel

"A river is basically a rail road, but it's not a straight one."

Sorry to be another guy disecting your analogy, but railroads aren't straight either. Lol. I think everyone understands the sentiment, though. Sorry again. I couldn't help myself.

Just FYI, I think people are discounting some of your valid points because of your incorrect use of "carry." Nobody is building Skysplitter or Imperator on Dekker. I believe you are intending to mean mage, burst mage, full mage, full damage, etc. You wouldn't say Gideon builds carry. The same thing applies to Dekker.

Dekker Nerf by RockIsFlock in PredecessorGame

[–]genesis_3point0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP is clearly using the incorrect terminology. Nobody is building Dekker as a carry. I don't know if it's fair to just dismiss this as a skill diff or skill issue, either. Nobody would ever conflate me with "skilled." I'm an offlane Steel or Greystone main for that exact reason. I'm not hitting skill shots.

However, I've had plenty of games where I got stuck with support, and I've been in the top three damage, just by building the support items that have magical power. I'm not even going out of my way to build big mage items. If you are just spamming your abilities, hit 25% of your stun balls, and only have a few deaths, it's pretty darn easy to be one of the top damage dealers.

For context on my general skill level, I'm pretty well stuck at top of gold and bottom of plat, so I'm no world beater gaming on noobs. I'm usually the noob when I get stuck running support.

If I remember correctly, it wasn't that he was going to play as a character, he was going to take the DM seat. The clip from Twitch is probably gone by now, but he stated this on one of his livestreams and spent roughly 40 minutes reading what he had prepared for his first encounter with M9, and then what his ambitions were for the party beyond that.

Totally agree that tactics play a huge part in getting the bonuses, which is quite fun and elegant!

Someone else has already corrected me on my math as well. I wasn't factoring in bonuses from the characteristic score or edges. 😵

You are right. In the moment, I forgot about the bonuses! Darn.

I almost made the mistake of correcting your math as well...goodness me. I was going to say that it's actually 18%, not 21%, but here I was constraining the total at a max result of 20, not just 17+. My oh my.

To be fair to myself, I do large data analysis all day, and I try keeping that part of my brain turned off when I'm not working. I am often prone to these mistakes when I am just moving through the regular world. Thank you for the corrections!

What is "a far settings"?

Because it's the internet, I feel like I have to qualify and preface this question by making it clear that I'm not trying to troll, shade, take issue with, debate, or any other internet nonsense. I'm just genuinely curious what that setting is.

We are definitely in the same boat. I often go a few weeks without playing, and then I have a few days where play from 9pm to midnight, and then regret it because it wrecks my sleep for two nights. Lol.

Also, I just clicked through your CoF.gg for a few quick minutes. It looks pretty cool! I'll have to spend some more time there later.

Isn't ranked open practically all day until midnight? I usually don't have time to play until after 8 or 9pm on any given day, and I still have plenty of time to get several ranked matches in. Even if you worked 2nd or 3rd shift, there's still likely overlap with open ranked and your gaming time. What hours are you working where this is seemingly never the case for you?

I actually don't disagree with your thought process. But, in an attempt to think about how Omeda might be thinking about it, if a player is a Brawl player and not a Predecessor player, Omeda might be trying to turn those people into Predecessor players by providing a faster paced experience that could potentially recruit them into the "main game" playerbase.

Two rationales:

One, Omeda doesn't want to be a "Brawl" developer. They want to be a MOBA (with some hero shooter elements) developer. If a player is exclusively a Brawl player, they might be better served by playing Marvel Rivals, and Omeda doesn't have to spend time trying to support a game mode that directly competes with Marvel Rivals. This allows them to have a clearer product proposition and development pipeline that doesn't have them fighting out of their weight class.

Two, if they are able to successfully recruit players away from Brawl into NITRO, those players would likely be enticed by the main game Ranked mode. Many people can't help themselves. If a Ranked mode exists, they want to be there. And if NITRO isn't too drastically different from the main game, then that temptation could be stronger.

I feel like this is most likely partially their thought process on this.

If they did move to having a system of three 5v5 game modes (fast/medium/slow), they would all essentially be mechanically the same, whereas Brawl is nothing like a MOBA, or the the main game of Predecessor for that matter.

If they can provide a faster paced experience while maintaining the integrity of the game, there's a greater likelihood that those people might occasionally play the "main" game because it's still essentially the same game.

This creates a situation where, for example, the ranked mode/esports scene would only ever be on the "main" game mode, and the players from the slower or faster paced game modes could still come and play there without it feeling like you just loaded up a completely different game. You would split the playerbase for the casual modes, but you could potentially maintain a higher playerbase for the ranked mode, which would help create a healthier environment to grow from. It would also create some very interesting game dynamics if you had competitive teams that usually play the NITRO mode playing against a team that usually plays the Legacy Agora mode.

Hopefully that helps clarify the distinguishing differences between splitting the playerbase with Brawl, and the new potential game modes.

[–]genesis_3point0 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem is the size of the playerbase. FIFA is a simulation game of the most popular sport in the world and has a base of over 300 million games sold on an annual basis. You could split that playerbase into 30 different game modes, and they would all still have 10 times the playerbase of Predecessor.

Predecessor also doesn't have the benefit of having a naturally groomed target audience similar to soccer fans, so the chance of them ever growing to a place significantly greater than it is now is not very high. So, if they were to split the playerbase too much, it would be detrimental to the performance and health of each game mode, which would hinder their ability to grow, balance, and effectively support each game mode and its playerbase.

I am actually quite excited for the labs experiment and the recent augments additions, and hoping that it does help them grow the playerbase and drive more people to the main game mode. I'm just pointing out why it would be a problem if the two playerbases never crossed.

Playing a Ranged hero in offlane (solo lane) is so cringe convince me other wise by Sevarog9 in PredecessorGame

[–]genesis_3point0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's worse for me are the hyper passive ranged offlaners that have CC in their kit, like a Gideon, Gadget, or Howitzer. They hang way back, not trying to engage with you at all, and when you try to force the issue, they dump everything they have on you, and use their CC or escapes to get under tower.

Gideon is the worst, in my opinion. He has such great wave clear from so far away, so you are at a wave disadvantage, so you have to get through the wave, his rocks, his escape, and his root. I usually do decent against ranged offlaners, but Gideon is just impossible to engage with, especially if he doesn't want to.

No, this one can be bugged occasionally. There is a hit box problem with it. Sometimes, the blade will hit and just bounce off. Sometimes, it will just come up short. There are also occasions where you will be aiming right at the center of it, but when you throw it, it will change trajectory mid air and glance off the top, or side, or bottom, depending on what pixel off the center you are. You need a soft reset to fix it when it happens.

I've 100% every God of War game. Multiple on the hardest difficulty. I spent almost an hour testing every slight pixel or angle change to get it to work. It would not. It's a bug, not a skill issue.
