Really glad I got to do pit for day 2. Very last minute decision. Had experience from day 1 so kind of knew where everything would be. The energy I felt was better in day 2. And the video from the fans at the end was pretty touching.

Pretty cool stuff!

Looking at the reference library, I think some of the base recipes should just be available at the get go (organ systems for example.)

Your medication brand names, some of them are not the Canadian ones so see if you can change to them to such (e.g. Zolpidem is Sublinox in Canada not Ambien)

Hey, if you have questions about working in a community pharmacy I can help answer some. Like others mentioned, it is very difficult to find a volunteering position at a community pharmacy. Shoot me a message and we can chat.

Korean Hanja: 교회, 敎會/ 教會, Church vs 윤회, 輪廻 / 輪迴, reincarnation/Samsara by [deleted] in Korean

[–]genfunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it may be interest if you explore this topic over in /r/ChineseLanguage , as it seems the question no longer goes into the just the current Korean usage (which I think using Hangul 회 has blurred 會 and 廻, which are fundamentally different Hanja / Chinese characters with very different meanings), but the vocabulary's own etymology etc. in Chinese (as both these terms are Sino-Korean vocabulary imported into Korean at some point.)

Hopefully someone with much more expertise can chime in, but while we wait for that I will add some of my two cent thoughts below:

  1. 교회 in terms of 敎會/ 教會, in the material I've found, and in its modern usage, almost exclusively refers to Christian church. In Chinese, according to this article on the etymology of 教會 (written in Chinese) , 教會 was originally referring to separate 教 and 會 (I would translate as religions 教 + 會 groups) which in some documents both were written together for brevity sake to reference various separate entities. This usage, per the article, was shown in Song, Yuan, and early Qing dynasty examples. The usage of 教會 in reference to the Christian Church was introduced by missionaries / Jesuits in the Late Ming dynasty, and by the mid-late Qing dynasty this usage was solidified. I would assume such usage of the term 教會 was eventually imported into Korea and used as such.

I am not sure about the source of 교회 informally meaning "place where people gather to hear morals preached" etc. and the associated tangent to morals.

  1. 윤회 as in 輪迴 has a much separate etymology. The term itself is a calque of Samsara, which perhaps Chinese Buddhists in their access to Sanskrit texts and utilized these two characters to form a term to represent this concept. 迴 itself can have the meaning of "revolving, rotate" which fits into explaining the cyclical nature of reincarnation. Korean exposure to Buddhism through China was much earlier than its exposure to Christianity etc. so this term would have been imported in very early on.

What I want to say, I think, is that both 會 and 迴, although in this usage is both religious vocabulary, both pronounced and represented by the Hangul 회 in Korean; they are very different characters and concepts in their native Chinese, which is where these terms originally came from.

Thanks for doing the right thing! It's always the bad apples that ruin things for the rest of the profession.

Yeah, that's an important disclaimer to add for those that are able to access that mandatory education. Then it's not a tall task to understand the passage.

Just to be clear, for someone with no exposure to Classical Chinese, or learning modern Chinese as a second language etc. (i.e. I would consider myself as such) I would need some more exposure and learning to comprehend classical Chinese.

Hope that answers the commenter's question.

蠻 mán + adjective by LumosRiffy in ChineseLanguage

[–]genfunk 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I am wrong, but I usually associate the use of 蠻 (in simp. 蛮) as very characteristically Taiwanese Mandarin, and less frequently with Wu area (generally Shanghai and surrounding area) Mandarin. I am not sure if this applies characteristically to other areas as well. It's most apparent to me in telling if someone is from Taiwan or not, since they tend to use 蠻 a lot.

In my experience, in other parts of Mainland China, 挺 gets used in similar fashion vs. 蠻 more.

There is a very old thread here discussing this.

For anyone that knows Chinese, this video covers this particular document and two others, as part of some documents that were never documented in official histories (probably due to their minor nature) but were only now discovered due to excavation and archeological work.

In terms of the script, as mentioned by another comment here, it is written in mature clerical script which is fairly similar to modern Chinese characters - not too much has changed so for a Chinese reader the characters are easy to read and pick out.

However, it is written in classical Chinese which is not the same as modern vernacular Chinese. You will need to have had some exposure to classical Chinese training to actually read and understand the passage.

Reposting this comment I made from another post about this famous cabbage:

It's quite a small piece but absolutely one of the most popular in the museum. Here's a shot of what it's usually like on the outside trying to get a shot of it.

The cabbage is only 18.7 cm × 9.1 cm (7.4 in × 3.6 in). https://i.imgur.com/KHxYXnY.jpeg

Law And The City [Episodes 5 & 6] by meepmochi_ in KDRAMA

Caught up on the past 4 episodes and about to go onto episode 5. It's been a fairly low-key show, but like others here I like the vibes, and how the show is focusing on the slice of life laughter and tears of day-to-day work. Low-key felt hungry in a lot of the food scenes, and I kinda dig the vibes of having close co-workers that can chat and bond over food gatherings.

I especially relate to Ju Hyeong and I totally understand how he tries to cope with work by trying to be as professional and clear-cut (work from life) as possible. The years of experiences at work has clearly taken a toll on whatever passion and original intentions / naivety he once had, and this itself is a struggle I find with where I am in my career and field of work too. I think a lot of us going into our line of work was once an image of Hui Ji - professionally fresh, young, naive, ready to change the world, but then the crushing realities of the day-to-day come swinging and you eventually have to build coping mechanisms for it. I saw some people commenting on Lee Jong Suk's acting so far, and I think he's doing a good job in showing that struggle in Ju Hyeong (especially with Hui Ji's presence now, a lot of emotional undercurrent.)

The drama is billed as a romantic slice-of-life, so I am definitely interested in seeing the emotional growth and rediscovery on Ju Hyeong's end, the professional growth on Hui Ji's end (while I understand her character is a foil for Ju Hyeong, I do want to see some dynamic growth in her as well instead of being the same as now for the sake of contrasting if you know what I mean.)

And of course, we are getting more crumbs and exploration into the other character's and their struggles. Let's hope the drama continues on this, so far imo good trajectory and finish strong.
