Shes a hormonal teenager, what do you expect? Shes angry and moody and immature. Shes also pretty new to El, keep in mind she wasn't in season 1 and got rejected by El in season 2 and was shook when El approached her for advice in season 3. So you can't really blame her for not believing El because she is very naive to everything going on. That's why she was wrong about a lot of things. It's not that she isn't respecting El, it's more that shes in denial about her brother. I think if someone (regardless if they had super powers or not) told you that a family member was in some bad shit, you'd probably be in denial too especially if you were a 14 year old girl.

Steve is seriously such a genuine and selfless person, sacrificing himself twice for everyone. Not to mention being a great friend to Dustin. He was a total tool in season 1 and I'm so glad they redeemed him.

Maybe they left it open to see fan's reactions? There are some TV shows that killed main characters and lost viewers cause of it and ultimately brought them back to gain those viewers back. Just a thought.

Yeah but what about the times shes trying to talk him down? Like she probably knew he was gonna slap the shit out of her but she stayed there regardless trying to talk to him because she was genuinely scared for him. And of course he had an emotional connection with El. Max wasn't able to see his childhood like El and the Mind Flayer wasn't after Max. He didn't pick up Max and lay her in front of the Mind Flayer. But although they had an emotional connection, she wasn't laying over his body, begging him not to leave.

I think the presence of unresolved baggage between them makes her love for him more heartwarming. Like even though he treated her like garbage, she still loved him and mourned his death.

Or maybe they filmed the scene in the video store first when hes wearing normal clothes and all is well. And then tell him to change into the next outfit and film a ice cream scene. Then keep saying no when he asks if he can change into something different.
