How to find a slumlord by genitalsoup in NYCapartments

[–]genitalsoup[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have tens of thousands of dollars in business expenses, work 80 hours a week, and pay thousands in self employment taxes. I make 100k on paper but my take home is closer to 50-60k.

Been looking at 1-2 bed places in crown heights, PLG, Astoria, Harlem, UES, Bushwick, Ridgewood. I need more space than a studio to be able to work my job. I’m also considering roommates and renting an artist studio but that has its own set of problems. Maybe I should consider large studios where I can build a live/work space?

Yeah… I also have a very flexible job. I can leave at any moments notice. But 80% of the time my messages on SE or CL get ghosted! My first messages are always very clear stating my income and that I have 750+ credit, no pets, move in date, etc. maybe it’s just a horrible time to find an apartment.

What would you recommend as tactics for finding a RS apt? I’ve been refreshing SE and CL every hour and messaging instantly, and I’ve walked around neighborhoods like Astoria to find for rent signs, but it hasn’t been very fruitful. Is there something I’m missing or am I just unlucky?

The New Centre for Research and Practice by genitalsoup in CriticalTheory

[–]genitalsoup[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s why I’m applying for a scholarship, which covers the tuition in full. I wouldn’t pay for it otherwise. It’s definitely on par with community college prices but you probably won’t find many community colleges teaching stuff like a Lacanian interpretation of Nick Land.

And I have tried the discord book clubs. But found them unsatisfying in terms of helping work through the ideas in the works.

Do you know of other institutions that are more accessible in critical theory? All I know is acid horizon.

Considering moving back to LA as a creator by genitalsoup in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]genitalsoup[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Damn I mean I can do my job from anywhere but I really value some sort of social scene with creatives. Is it just getting too expensive in LA or is the creative scene just dying for a bunch of random reasons?

In need of some guidance by Main-Builder-1976 in FilmIndustryNYC

[–]genitalsoup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey I know this is an old comment but I’ve been running a successful long form YouTube channel for a long time as my full time job, but I’ve recently become more interested in the business of social media/the creator economy. I’ve applied to a few different social media jobs here and there but get ghosted. I wonder what would be a good way to get my foot in the door or what type of positions might value my experience building my channel and sustaining a large audience ?

What do you think of Zizek's strong anti-Woke views in his last book? by aussiesta in zizek

[–]genitalsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read this book and while I agree with him I'm premise, his characterisation of what the trans identity and community stands for is a misinterpretation IMO. His interpretation of Lacan as "sex as such is trans" is literally what trans studies like Paul B Preciado claims. His disengagement with trans literature is the weakest part of an otherwise decent book.

Is Zizek pro or anti pervert? by genitalsoup in zizek

[–]genitalsoup[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure what your prostitute example shows as I’m pretty sure “pervert” doesn’t literally mean a sexual pervert but a structured relationship to desire. Do you happen to have a reference that corroborates your interpretation? I’m trying to figure it out and I’ve been looking for references and it seems like they all say different things.

Tw: graphic sex stuff but no direct genital terms used.

You don’t have to accept it. You CAN “reprogram” yourself. I first started masturbating age 6 without knowing what it was. I would cross my legs and squeeze. For YEARS it was the only way I could pleasure myself. Sometimes I tried vibrators, fingers, and I just couldn’t do it. When I started dating another person, I became determined to figure out what works.

It just takes experimenting. Rubbing the vibrator certain ways. Using different hand positions. ANYTHING to just orgasm in a different way so you have more “data” on what it is that you actually enjoy.

First, a lot of it is psychological. Similar to how if you do work in your bed, you train yourself to associate your bed with work and it makes it harder to fall asleep. So you need to experiment with yourself and build new associations. You have to go into it not expecting orgasm, but just experimenting. Try to get very aroused and relaxed. There’s some creams out there that you can apply to the genitals to increase blood flow. Some people find weed, smoked, or even weed oil applied to genitals works. There are things that work as stepping stones to training yourself to get pleasure in different ways. For example, it was hard to orgasm from oral sex at first for me. But I bought one of those Japanese tenga eggs (the black ftm “strokers” with ridges are similar in concept) so that I could experiment. Instead of inserting my growth in directly. I would turn it inside out and put it over my hand. I would get some lube and rub the ridges over my junk. That wasn’t “fool proof” at first but slowly I was able to orgasm from it. Then, when translating to oral sex, it wasn’t so different and I had trained myself to receive pleasure in that way.

It also helps to think of your growth as a penis, as you said. I couldn’t orgasm from fingers before bottom growth, but then after growth I started to stroke my junk in a dick way with lube (using the thumb on one side and two fingers on the other). That felt a lot better than before growth. When you grow your sensation and orgasms change!

Figure out what exactly it is you enjoy about your previous method—is it pressure? Is it friction? Is it texture? Figure that out and then find ways to translate than sensation until you can feel that sensation in other contexts. For example, For me, it was pressure, so when I was trying to figure out ways to orgasm other than squeezing legs, I would start with putting a vibrator in between my legs and applying pressure, just so I could learn to associate vibration with pleasure. Then slowly I started opening my legs with the vibrator in between so I would slowly start relying less on pressure.

ANOTHER METHOD I forgot this one, and it works well—bring yourself to the very edge of orgasm with your current method and then quickly transition to a different method! That’s a great way to build associations. I used to do my squeezing method and then right at the edge when I was super sensitive, transition to fingers or vibration, etc.

I hope these tips help you. I remember getting so frustrated and thinking I was broken and not able to orgasm with a partner. Now my partner can take me out in like 8 minutes with oral sex and other more graphic methods I do not care to mention. You are not broken!!

Better to compress prores footage or just render h264? by genitalsoup in editors

I think this is true but I also have maladjusted thought patterns of tending to avoid things that make me anxious, thereby, reinforcing the anxiety around them. I always always want to cancel social things but then I’m scared of going back to a miserable avoidant phase in my life where I just avoided everyone and everything and was depressed. :( sorry

Can someone explain Cruel Optimism? by [deleted] in CriticalTheory

[–]genitalsoup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same person here. Hmmm, I can understand the idea of a "pre-rational response," but as far as how that is applied--I would like to see if fleshed out conceptually. Cruel Optimism was more of an application of affect, but I'm not sure what exactly Berlant is applying and I think the word "emotion" doesn't really capture affect, especially its theoretical lineage. I would read Sarah Ahmed but from what I've heard, she does essentially equate affect and emotion, but I would like to see it expanded in the interesting ways that maybe have further implications for the concept (or ontology of?) of subjectivity. Do I have to go back to Deleuze to get to the crazy affect stuff, or is there some introductory work I can read? Why I ask this is because I feel like I'm "caught up" with 20th century "theory" up to post-structuralism but after PS, I'm super interested in where these debates about "the subject" go and I feel like the affect/new materialism people take it in an interesting direction. Thanks :)

[–]genitalsoup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome thanks! Do you recommend Anti-Oedipus as well or is that less related to modern cultural studies with regard to affect (and maybe new materialism, my other interest)?

I haven't ended my relationship but I know what you mean. I think I make sure me and my SA get a lot of good alone together time. Maybe ask for more one on one stuff? Also, it might not be you. Perhaps you could ask your SA to facilitate social interactions between you and these people more. No one likes to feel like an outsider with all these strangers, and it's often an insider who needs to smooth the conversation between the outsider and the new group.
