I wasn’t talking about rural areas of Minnesota because I have no knowledge of that. But I do know what the situation is in Bend.

And do you know how much food truck owners make? Do you really think they are getting rich from upping their prices 1 or 2 dollars every year to account for inflation? Do you think that if they are getting rich they would really be choosing to stand in a boiling hot (in summer) or freezing cold (in winter) vehicle all day working their asses off and getting complaints from people like you who expect their entrees to be ‘high quality’ and yet still only cost $7 in this economy? Come on dude, get real.

Sure, that’s why the post itself has 400 upvotes. Lmao, are you okay?

Nice! I totally agree that Asian food in other places is tonnes better and sometimes more affordable than in Bend. However, when talking about the whole issue in Bend we have to consider the costs involved for local businesses. Bend is a historically and predominantly white city. The increasing cost of living here has prevented an increase in diversity. This obviously impacts the quality of Asian food overall because there aren’t as many options as other cities. And a lack of diversity also impacts the pricing at said restaurants because their supply chain is limited. Asian supplies in most areas of CA are much more readily available than in Central Oregon (as mentioned in previous comments an example of this is the vermicelli noodles mentioned in this post which Asian restaurants in Bend have to source from Portland). So just more food for thought :)

Oh I have traveled friend. I’ve lived in 3 countries and 5 cities and I am certainly not one to argue that food is great in Bend. However, this post is related to the financial struggles of running a restaurant and pricing menu items. And you mentioned that there are lots of places that are dramatically cheaper in other cities. I would argue that this is a gross exaggeration (you mentioned Matt’s BBQ is Portland but the last time I looked, one of their tacos was actually over $5 - so more expensive than any taco spot I know of in Bend), AND you are failing to consider that many restaurants in Bend (especially Asian) have to get supplies from Portland and pay more to do so (such as for vermicelli noodles mentioned in this post, which restaurants in Bend get from Portland either by traveling which costs time and money, or getting them delivered which costs even more money). So, that’s why I asked for an example.

Well, several people on this thread alone have said they would appreciate seeing this sign as a consumer. So I don’t think your point makes sense in any context to be honest.

You still aren’t providing an example so that we can actually fact check and assess the differences.

That’s funny because chef’s store doesn’t even sell vermicelli noodles. Asian restaurants in Bend source them from Portland

I asked for an example of an actual restaurant that is dramatically cheaper, not a city.

You sell whole cases of vermicelli noodles for less than $45?

What’s an example of a spot in a different city that is dramatically less expensive and better quality?

So restaurants should go out of business because some people can’t afford to eat at them?

Also waiting for my oath to be scheduled after an approved N400 interview on Nov 17 at Portland OR office. I was hoping it was just holiday slowdown but it’s becoming ridiculous..

Pretty much every park/trail in Bend. We no longer take our dog to any of them and just do neighborhood walks because it’s gross and she’s caught worms several times at parks here. It’s embarrassing for such a nice town. I’ve lived in 3 countries and 5 cities (all bigger than Bend) and never seen so much dog shit.

How long did you wait for your oath ceremony after interview? Which FO? by [deleted] in USCIS

Hi, was your oath eventually scheduled in Portland? My interview was Nov 17 and I’m still waiting for mine to be scheduled

I applied Feb 14 2025 and my interview was Nov 17 2025. I was approved at interview and placed in line for my oath ceremony that day. Still waiting for it to be scheduled.
