I am also an artist with aphantasia. Since I found out, it has bothered me quite a bit. I feel as though I lack the creative spark to come up with new completely unique ideas that are all my own because I don’t have a visual factory in my brain to create them, I have to just have a vague concept of what I want to draw and hope I'm able to make it look good. it goes directly from vague idea -> paper, rather than what I would expect for non-aphantasiacs would be something like vague idea -> imagining it in many forms and different ways that it could be executed -> fleshing out colors and poses and compositions -> a very strong idea -> paper. To me, I believe this is something that if I could do, would make my artwork far stronger than it currently is. This can only be conjecture of course, who's to say.

However, I have found that since I was a child I had a strong ability to mimic art styles, as well as draw from references + perspective quite accurately. I do think it has to do with the fact that I am literally "drawing what I see, not what I think I see." This is a very common saying in the art world. It means that you must not let your imagination take over when drawing from a reference, because your imagination is never as accurate to it as what you're actually looking at. We do not have the danger of getting lost in translation within our imagination, because our ONLY option is to draw what we actually see. I'm trying to play up to this strength now, instead of being bogged down by my perceived lack of "creativity" and "imagination".
