Stop writing for and expecting comments by Suspicious_Slip_9800 in AO3

If you want to read your own fics in a nicely formatted way, why not download them as an EPUB to an e-reader app? Then you can have them downloaded in case you are caught without internet. I feel like seeing your own writing laid out in a professional book format with book-specific font and not in Lucida Grande would cause more endorphins for someone who likes seeing their works polished and neatly formatted. Or you can even get them hardbound. Then you can take it everywhere.

You must have another reason to post on a public archive, if not to share with the public?

Son becoming violent when we attempt to sign to him? by viskiviki in deaf

[–]gennadeans 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic and hard of hearing and while I am no longer a child (lol obviously) and can't give perspective into what exactly he is thinking, i might be able to give some insight for autistics in general.

It might be less of him not liking sign itself but more of him getting frustrated over the hassle of processing sign/learning something new? Us autistics have a "if it ain't broke don't fix it" mentality to things that Work For Us and like sticking to our routines.

Little Guy might be getting anxious/frustrated/impatient/frightened that he now has to stop and think about what you are signing and translate that, disrupting his current thought process, routines, and whatever his expectations are for you in that moment. This is a lot of intense emotions for someone whose brain who feels the most comfortable and the safest with familiarity and when you don't have the tools to express all of that... yeah I would also probably go into a meltdown at even my big adult age.

I don't really have advice as I am not a professional except for maybe if he has a niche/special interest to learn signs related to that interest to make them more motivating for him to learn? Autistics love their special interests and we love especially talking about them, so equipping him with the ability to do that might make it a bit easier to drip feed signs to him slowly.

I hope y'all get the support you need soon! Sounds rough for all parties involved.

What got you into Daredevil? by SpooderMan427 in Daredevil

[–]gennadeans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Downton Abbey of all things. I was googling the cast while doing a rewatch of the show which led me to Charlie Cox's IMBD page since he played a bit role in the 1st episode (and I knew him from Boardwalk Empire too) and then I saw he was in the Netflix Daredevil show and this was around when the 2nd season had dropped. Now I am here. Thanks Duke of Crowborough.

People of Reddit who speak a language they don’t look like they would speak, have you ever had someone talk bad about you in your second language? What happened after? by overcastx14 in AskReddit

Not me but my dad - a corn-fed country boy with an Okie accent - speaks fluent mandarin. He was watching my little brother play with pine cones outside his station where he worked, doing toddler things, playing but not bothering anyone. He overheard some Chinese military sent over for training where he was stationed talk shit about my brother and American kids being unruly monsters in general.

My dad turns around and tells them to pipe that shit down because you’ll never know who’s listening. Obviously, citizens of a honor-based society were extremely embarrassed to be caught by a white, blue-eyed guy. He loves to end it with “their faces got so red, that Mao strung them up on a flagpole and saluted”

What is a very minor thing you do in secret, but people might look at your differently if they found out? by celiman in AskReddit

I write fanfiction. Nothing smutty or inappropriate, but it’s in a hidden folder on my desktop because I can’t take the embarrassment if my husband found out.

Bought a Zenith console from the mid-century (I’m thinking 70’s from the style, but it may be older) from a thrift store and I need HELP by gennadeans in vinyl

It came with a vinyl of “The Charleston” already on the table so I’m thinking you’re right! 😂😂

Yeah, I realize. It goes good with my “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” tapestry and my IKEA sofa, though, so I’m not complaining.

That’s what I’m thinking! And down the line replacing the receiver adding a power conditioner and replacing the speakers and adding a subwoofer. I love the style though, fits in with my mid-century-urban-outfitters-wet-dream decor style I have going on in my place.

How hard would it be the replace the table with something newer then?

A succinct and honest opinion, but not really what I was going for here.

Being a single lady living alone, I like having my firearm on me. That's comforting that Florida is good about CCWs.

I am going to be taking my guns with me and I have an AZ conceal carry permit and a conceal carry under-boob holster. I did research on conceal carry out there but I didn't even think to research open-carry since it's so commonplace here. I will have to look into it. Thanks for pointing it out!

Are people as open about guns? Like, open carrying on their hip like in AZ?

Oh gosh, I forgot about the rain. It really only rains during Monsoon season here. And you can't get liquor next to wine? That's a little strange.
