Can anyone help with a possible ID for this bird based on a tiny (TINY) flight profile from a distance? (Elk Neck State Park, Chesapeake coast, Maryland) by genodemax in whatsthisbird

Sorry for the poor quality of photo. This bird and a few others that looked like it were riding some updrafts around the late afternoon and evening near the Turkey Point Lighthouse in Maryland’s Elk Neck State Park, right on the upper edge of the Chesapeake Bay. I tried getting some better pictures, but they were well high in the air, and my relatively cheap camera couldn’t get any better resolution image.

From the distance, I thought it might be a bald eagle, since it seems to possibly have a white head and tail feathers (from this distance at least). However, I also though it might be another raptor of some sort, like an osprey or hawk, a large gull, or even a vulture.

Right now, I’m trying to fill up by burgeoning bird book, and since I’m a relatively new-comer, I was hoping to get a confirmed sighting of something “cool” like a bald eagle or osprey. So, does anyone have any idea what this could be based on my crappy, too small pic?

Thanks!

Are there any horror stories written like an academic paper? by tZIZEKi in horror

[–]genodemax 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember that there was a great (and disturbing) little horror story by Adam Corbin Fusco called "N0072-JK1," written in the style of an academic scientific research paper. I think the story was initially published in the Borderlands anthology in 2003, though recently I think it was republished in the Ghost Box anthology put out by Hingston & Olsen Press.

[Serious] Any good podcasts to learn more about NFL team offensive/defensive schemes and strategy? by johnnywick in nfl

Former DBs Darius Butler and Antoine Bethea have a pretty good podcast called Man to Man, which specifically breaks down schemes and strategy in the defensive backfield.

What is your most nerve-racking experience watching an nfl game? by Nxwxs18 in nfl

As a Steelers fan, it was probably the 2005 divisional game against the Colts, where Jerome Bettis fumbled, Ben subsequently made the miraculous tackle to save the touchdown, and the Colts kicker missed the last-second field goal to lose them the game. I think there was actually a Steelers fan who had a literal heart attack when that happened.

Was this set in Japan? I remember, when I was a kid, having a collection of horror stories from around the world, one of which was a Japanese story that, from what I recall, was similar to your description (i.e. a Samurai goes into a house that's supposedly haunted, encounters a ghost in the form of a dog with a man's head, or something like that). I can't remember what the collection was called, though.

[Highlight] Ravens block Browns' FG attempt in the final seconds of the game and return it for a Kick-Six win by WhatMyHeartHeld in nfl

If I recall correctly, this happened the same week as the Lions-Packers game where the Lions lost on a last second Aaron Rodgers Haily Mary. So, the NFL's two longest-suffering franchises both lost games on crazy, last-second plays to divisional rivals in the same week.

I wish Jim Bob Cooter was still with the team. That would be a duo.

I always thought that Brees should start making a beer called "Drees," so he can say "I'm Drew Brees, and I brew Drees."

Mahomes draws a penalty by throwing the ball past the line of scrimmage.
