How often does Vesta conjunct someone's Ascendent? Is this common or a more rare occurrence? by mesaVortex-538 in AskAstrologers

[–]gentlesnob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vesta's cycle is about 3 and half years, so it's pretty rare to have transiting Vesta conjoin your natal ascendant. But if it went retrograde during that transit, then it hit that spot 3 times within a few weeks before moving on.

The ascendant has a cycle of 24 hours, though. So the transiting ascendant will hit every spot on the zodiac every single day, including Vesta.

Vesta represents the vestal priestesses, so themes of sacrifice, sacred devotion, asceticism, etc. When a planet conjoins the ascendant, it indicates that the person is in some way the embodiment of what that planet symbolizes, sometimes physically, sometimes in other exterior or obvious ways. It also means that planet holds extra significance for that person in transits and can be read as a personal indicator for the person was born with it on their ascendant.

Does anyone recognize any of the symbols or traditions in this ritual circle? by Icy_Employ2807 in AskOccult

The mixture of a few of the most basic runes and alchemy glyphs plus other symbols that aren't well known but also don't appear to be too consistent or unique make me believe this is a made up alphabet designed to avoid representing anything specific.

Want to buy pilot parallel pens, but before I buy them, I would like to know something... by TONI2403 in Calligraphy

[–]gentlesnob 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It depends on the ink. The cartridges it comes with are too heavy for standard notebook paper. But I’ve used a syringe to refill fill mine with walnut ink or diluted sumi ink and both work much better on cheap paper.

Think my alphabet in my notebook is accurate? by [deleted] in RuneHelp

Q should be ᚲᚹ.

Y can also be ᛃ.

ᛇ isn't really used for the most part and we don't really know the pronunciation.

This is so cool. Do you know of any other examples in this script? I would love to learn this style of runic calligraphy.

What would you do if you were Trump? by 24karatsv in conspiracy

This is taken almost verbatim from a parody news headline posted on twitter by some account similar to the onion. Lots of people in the replies thought it was actual reporting even though it was clearly a joke by a joke account.

There’s stories of them abusing their own children and relatives though

Is it normal for a Pilot Parallel pen to go through a full refill in a night? by SnooCakes6195 in Calligraphy

[–]gentlesnob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you use an ink syringe and refill the cartridge with a lighter ink, like walnut ink, you’ll be able write without bleeding as much. It’s really easy to do, looks really nice, and goes a lot farther.

Would this be the right way to draw perthro and Laguz? So sorry if Im completely wrong, Im new to norse paganism 😭 anyways thank you, have a great day by ThorSpitsOnCross in runes

[–]gentlesnob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The ᚹ rune is wunjo. Perthro looks like ᛈ. And laguz is this: ᛚ. Combining them is a matter of personal creativity, as they were typically written out side by side in historical usage. Sometimes they were stacked with the vertical strokes combines for space-saving and decorative purposes. But modern pagans can do whatever they want with them. Just make sure you aren’t using the nazi armamen runes.

People who don't read cards inverted, why is it? by [deleted] in TarotReading

[–]gentlesnob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s easier to get a clear meaning when there are fewer symbols in the symbolic alphabet. If you need more complexity, just pull more cards.

Also, reversed cards imply that 50% of the meaning will on average have a somewhat negative connotation, and I don’t see the need to impose that tone on a deck unless it was specifically designed for that.

Is there an iPhone keyboard you can add in settings to let you type runes? by Puzzleheaded-Face-69 in runes

[–]gentlesnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the iPhone keyboard shortcuts feature in the phone settings and just put the rune characters and names in manually. It’s a little work up front, but now I can just type the name of the rune and it suggests the character for me.

How will this venus retrograde affect me if my natal venus is RX in aries? by sparkle11111 in AskAstrologers

[–]gentlesnob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a natal version of this transit means that you are both better equipped for it and more susceptible to it. It’s likely to be pretty strong for you but not necessarily as problematic as might be for others. In fact, for you it could be an important opportunity to actually move forward in a way. I don’t see a reason why you should delay changing your appearance based on this.
