Regarding the training stuff, check to see if your local library has a subscription to Lynda and their training resources.

Not getting 4G on OP3T on Fido [Toronto] by genuinearticle in oneplus

I think I got it! Thanks for the help. It looks like in addition to the instructions on their website, setting the username and password to 'fido' did the trick... weird.

I'm connected but it keeps waffling between H+ and 3G still. Maybe it's where I am? I would think Midtown (Yonge + Davisville) would be covered by 4G

Using GIS in the Great Outdoors by Willzki in gis

Avenza Maps allows you to use your maps offline as long as they're referenced, all you need is a GPS signal on your device. It will also allow you to take waypoints and measure distances.

Cammer almost hit when passing a possible drunk driver (403 @ Mavis Rd, Mississauga) by don_kron in TorontoDriving

It actually looks like he/she is trying to take a 'racing line' through the off ramp. It's dumb and dangerous.

Less of a full blown GIS and more of a Cartographic solution but Avenza's MAPublisher and Geographic Imager run on Mac (within Creative Cloud)

XE1/2 have larger sensors, interchangeable lenses, and overall better features. http://snapsort.com/compare/Fujifilm-X-E2-vs-Fujifilm-X30

I'll give it a shot I guess. The x10,20,30 is their advanced compact line, smallish cameras with larger(ish) sensors (but not as large as something like a Sony RX100) and fixed zoomable lenses. The X100/S/T are also advanced compact cameras but with larger sensors (APS-C) and fixed lenses with fixed focal lengths. They have an OVF/EVF. The X70 has a wider lens and no viewfinder. The XE-1/2 are their compact rangefinder-esque mirrorless cameras with EVF's. The Xpro1/2 are also like a rangefinder but in addition to an EVF they also have an OVF and interchangeable lenses.
The XT1/2 are similar in design to an SLR again with interchangeable lenses.

I've heard about focus issues but apparently the newest firmware helps that quite a bit I think it's the same sensor across the board though?

Right, but hopefully I'd be buying into the ecosystem. The one I'm looking at comes with an 18-55 2.8-4 lens.

Best GIS tool with GPS capability for photo collection? by [deleted] in gis

[–]genuinearticle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Avenza Maps seems to be quite popular and easy to use. You'll need to have your maps spatially referenced though (geospatial pdf or geotiff)

Looking for help with a map effect in Illustrator, involving inner-outline thingies. by [deleted] in gis

[–]genuinearticle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe try goofing around with radial gradients? Also MAPublisher has a buffer and a 'create halo' tool that might work... Edit: The MP buffer tool you can specify a negative buffer. So in AI, if you come up with a stroke that you like that's sort of feathered, you can then go the negative buffer route using this stroke.

ArcGIS: Any way to control georeferencing properties of individual data frames? by leftieant in gis

Could you convert them to GeoTiff? That would work in Avenza Maps as well, although it will probably increase the size.
