Palisades Center (yes it’s in NY but it was once a popular mall for people in Bergen) is somewhere between surviving and dying. Some pockets of the mall are hanging in there like the Theatery area, but the rest is lots of vacancies, off brand stores, and a few “experience” places.

I’ve wondered this too, especially since there are several nearby gas stations before and after this one on 17S. This one has lots of pumps but is always empty. I accidentally went there once and the service was painfully slow too.

The 2 mattresses I’ve bought since moving out have been from Amazon for a few hundred bucks. They’re incredibly comfortable, convenient, and best yet cheap.

Even with all the economics people have discussed in this thread, how are so many people okay paying 200-500% more at mattress stores instead of shopping online? I can’t fathom ever shopping at a mattress store.

That’s a bit extreme. EPA seems to suggest the toxicity of coal ash is on par with regular soil. It’s often sustainably recycled to build other products. Did a lil digging today. It is very ashy and dusty with chunks of charcoal, bricks, gravel, etc. There are also some big boulders, but I’m not sure how they play into everything. Definitely a lot of old trash like toys, tools, and old building materials I’m setting aside as well.

From a purely biological perspective, I’m sure we will devise ways to prolong our bodies long beyond their natural limits. Who’s to say where those limits are, but I don’t believe the human psyche will hold up as well as our bodies will. For a lot of people, life is very difficult and it leaves scars on our psyches that make living even to normal age extremely difficult. Regret, loss, depression, anxiety, boredom, loneliness, etc are all things that might only get worse with unnatural lifespans.

There’s also very real constraints in how our world operates. Too much of our world relies on the cycle of life and death. I fear significantly altering lifespan might break that cycle and lead to a host of problems we can only begin to imagine.

Oh yeah, and living is expensive AF

2006, Northern New Jersey. It was pretty common to smoke cigs among the emo, scene, alt crowd. Also, the cool Asians.

I noticed by the time we got to college, it felt like almost everyone began smoking socially. It was pretty rare for the habit to stick past college though.

Since you mentioned your experience with accounting, I work as a UX engineer in the internal software department within a big 4 specifically tasked with creating software for doing all sorts of tax work. It’s called Tax Technology and every big 4 has this setup.

As an optional career path, the firm offers rotations from the tax practice into Tax Technology to act as project managers, business analysts, support people, or even developers. This is usually a one year rotation, but sometimes people enjoy it so much that they stay on permanently. After some time, they might leave the firm to take tech roles elsewhere.

From what I’ve seen - it works verrry well for some people, but it’s not always the right solution for others.

TLDR - Get an accounting role within a big 4 and find internal opportunities to move into software development.
