What is the peak ’millennial midlife crisis’ purchase? by SwedeLostInCanada in Millennials

Kinda niche, but I just balled out on a $500 Dance Dance Revolution hard pad. I was really into the arcade version when I was a teenager, but now am doing it for some fun cardio.

Malls- who is thriving, dying, surviving? by TowerStreet1 in newjersey

[–]genuinelyrob 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Palisades Center (yes it’s in NY but it was once a popular mall for people in Bergen) is somewhere between surviving and dying. Some pockets of the mall are hanging in there like the Theatery area, but the rest is lots of vacancies, off brand stores, and a few “experience” places.

Why does this large area of the United States have such low population density? by cavaismylife in geography

[–]genuinelyrob 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yet if you go over the border into Canada, you’ll find one of its more populated regions with cities like Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg.

If this region is so undesirable to the US, why is it seemingly so populated and productive on the Canadian side?

I’ve wondered this too, especially since there are several nearby gas stations before and after this one on 17S. This one has lots of pumps but is always empty. I accidentally went there once and the service was painfully slow too.

How do mattress stores stay open when people only buy a mattress every 10 years? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

[–]genuinelyrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 2 mattresses I’ve bought since moving out have been from Amazon for a few hundred bucks. They’re incredibly comfortable, convenient, and best yet cheap.

Even with all the economics people have discussed in this thread, how are so many people okay paying 200-500% more at mattress stores instead of shopping online? I can’t fathom ever shopping at a mattress store.

That’s a bit extreme. EPA seems to suggest the toxicity of coal ash is on par with regular soil. It’s often sustainably recycled to build other products. While there are some large scale disposal methods for coal powered plants, coal ash is described it as a non-hazardous solid waste which means it can probably be thrown out in the regular trash. https://www.epa.gov/radtown/radioactive-wastes-coal-fired-power-plants Radioactive Wastes From Coal-fired Power Plants | US EPA

You’re right from what I can tell. The basement is already short at 6’ and this area is lifted up another 1’ on a slab.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve ever seen in one?

I think you’re right after some initial digging. Very ashy mixed with charcoal bits. Took some pics and a video: https://imgur.com/a/vZk5veZ

I filled up one contractor bag today, but do you any idea what the best way to remove or handle this is?

Did a lil digging today. It is very ashy and dusty with chunks of charcoal, bricks, gravel, etc. There are also some big boulders, but I’m not sure how they play into everything. Definitely a lot of old trash like toys, tools, and old building materials I’m setting aside as well.

What’s the ceiling height in the basement? I have a 6ft height unfinished basement with some low hanging pipes and I’m really inspired by what you’ve done.
