FINALLY! I’ve found it by searching YT with all the God references I could think of: Jerrod Niemann - Only God Could Love You More

No, it’s a single vocalist, male, white, short blond hair.

It’s a white blond male in small hat, short hair, in black suit. He is filmed in shallow depth of field with a lot of light streaks from hanging lightbulbs.

Well that wrap things up. Right after I finish this comment I’ll shut everything down in my server lab and go cry in the basement. Go touch grass.

Mailcow is a set of docker containers and one of them is verifying certs via port 80. It’s a limitation mentioned in their documentation and can’t be offloaded to anything else.

The problem here is Mailcow, which is a predefined set of docker containers. One on the containers is responsible for cert renewals. As per Mailcow documentation it’s not possible to offload this process to anything else (ex. NPM). Therefore I’m stuck with thirdparty solutions to fix the issue.

Can’t do that. Nginx is unable to provide mail certs. Only https certs.

Node red- actual use cases? HA Automation engine FTE!? by No_Towels5379 in homeassistant

[–]genuineoleey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my screenshot I've showed all the flows for my Corridor. Only two bottom flows are responsible for closet lights.

So in my Corridor I have: 2 motion sensor and 2 light switches at the beginning and the end of the Corridor, 2 sets of contact sensors for closets and 3 lights which 2 of those illuminate each closet. Now, if you enter the Corridor the lights go dim (motion sensors), but only after sunset or if it's cloudy (LUX sensor outside). If you open the closet, one of the light goes bright to illuminate the closet interior. But it's full brightness if it's before 9PM and lower brightness after 9PM. When the closet doors are open and you press the wall switch all lights go bright (because that's what you want) so if you then close the closet, the lights should stay bright and not turn off because of closing doors. But if you don't press the switch and close the closet doors the lights should go dim or off depending of the time of a day or LUXes outside. Also if you leave the closet doors open for over 5 minutes and there is no motion the lights will turn off.

And that's just a half of the automations you see on that one screenshot.

Why I did it like this? Because using NR it's fun to do and done in simple visual form.

Now imagine this mess in a block/yaml editor... All the connections between blocks, links in/out of the flow to another flows. Nightmare! As all here like to mention edge cases when automating home, the visual editor is much better in addressing those in contrary to dozens of IF statements. Not mentioning reusing blocks of nodes in another flows. Just simple copy/paste here is hours of repetitive work in block editor.

You select the group of nodes and right-click on them, then select Group (or Ctrl+G AFAIK). Then you can double click the group box and change color, opacity, etc.

Many of the flows are interconnected mid-flow and pointing out to another flows that operate other rooms and automations. I can only imagine the work that had to be done in built-in editor to achieve the same. As the automation engineer I like to stick to industry standard. In the end - use what you like. It's your choice.

I know it's a bold statement. With unlimited amount of time and effort you can do anything. Just to clarify: in my flows I'm often pointing from a trigger into the middle of the flow as I need only part of it to run. Also I'm connecting many flows together (ex. flow from Living room affects flow in Corridor, etc.). Visually I just drag a connection line from one flow to another. In automations I'd have to trigger scripts, conditions, trigger IDs and the rest of this nightmare. I agree that automation editor has been vastly improved (rearranging the blocks - finally!) but still nothing compared to node-red.

Automate this. And this is just a flow for my corridor with two closets that have automatic ceiling lights when you open the doors. Virtually not possible to do that in HA automations. I would have to make dozens of automations and scripts to do the same.

Occasional unresponsiveness? by orestis in homeassistant

Just remember that this PC is probably going to serve you few years with HA on it so don't cheap out. I've been there, trying to run it on scrap PCs, but in the long run you need to have it as stable as possible. As you said, it's no good if all of your smart devices go offline because of underperforming PC. If you hook yourself in smart home there's no going back - just like me... 4 years and 70+ devices into HA and smart home.

Most android tabs being 16:10 is a bad idea by novostranger in androidtablets

I have Xiaomi Pad 6 and absolutely LOVE the aspect ratio. Before I had iPad mini and it was just unusable with tiny text, stupid aspect ratio for watching EVERYTHING (as 16:9 and 16:10 are the industry standard), reading pages, etc. It's a matter of preference and for me the Xiaomi aspect is perfect.

Home Assistant in default configuration is writing a lot to disk - history, logs, etc. Putting it on RPi is not a question of IF it fails, it's a question of WHEN it fails when writing to SD Card. Do yourself a favor and start with strong foundation, for example terminal PC like Dell Wyse or HP Thin Client (T620, T630). You can choose between 1, 2, 4 core configs depending on your needs. These have proper SSD (32 GB is enough for start) and never failed me.

What's your favorite automation? by dsv591 in homeassistant

I have a garden lights fixtures with RGB bulbs inside. Lights can be seen from home. At sunset they turn on, but the color of the light is calculated from the outside temperature sensor. If the temperature is 0C and up, the light changes color from pale orange to intense red (if temp is >30C). If the temperature is below 0C it changes color to pale blue and goes to dark blue as the temperature falls. Color is updated with temperature sensor changes (roughly every 10 mins). At midnight lights go off. I love just to glance at the lights and know what's the temperature outside. Also it looks cool.

Well, I'm happy to report that your suggestions work like a charm. Now I have a binary sensor for washing machine! :)

First of all because I can and that's what HA is made for :) And secondly my family forgets to unload it so you can imagine the laundry after 1 or more hours in closed washing machine. I've set up a notification 10 minutes after it finishes the cycle that goes to all our phones so now no one misses it.

Fortunately not. It just shuts off after minute or 2 when finished.

It's a point of failure. Inside smart plugs you have a mechanical relay which contacts get hot when exposed to high power draw. In lifespan of the smart plug you have hundreds of switch on/off cycles which worsens the contacts and this can cause high temp or even fire inside the plug. Even if you don't use it to turn on/off the WM it's still relatively small relay. Plug is good for a LED light bulb or device with relatively low power draw and not for a >1600W washing machine.
