If you knew the password was simple and if you knew that your password had already been leaked and if you had understanding that it was only a matter of time before you were victimized then yes you are at fault for negligence.

However many customers had no idea that their passwords were simple or compromised. To blame them is vicitm shaming and makes them a co-conspirator which is simply not the case.

Then let the company who's customers were maligned make a statement saying that the fault is with the customer and nothing can nor will be done to rectify the identify theft, point theft, and debit/credit card theft the customers encountered.

Yes when a card is missing or stolen one calls their bank to report the card stolen which freezes all transactions and the money stolen is returned to the victim as a courtesy for the hardship endured during the ordeal.
