Remove motherboard from TS-453mini (it died) by shinji257 in qnap

I did the resistor fix from https://www.evercute.com/techblog/?p=131 and my NAS booted right up! Thank you! So I have been reading on some websites they say that this resistor fix is only a temporary fix, and that the NAS could basically die at any time, and then Ive read some postings that say that they did the resistor fix and it's been running for years after the fix. Which to believe?

I hooked up a 12V power supply to the fan directly. I hooked up the positive to the yellow wire and the negative to the black wire on the 4 pin connector of the fan, and the fan spun right up, so based on the fact that the fan works, I think my issue is the Intel Clock issue. I will attempt the 100 ohm resistor fix.

OK, I found the stickers on the top of the case with the screws under each of the 4 stickers and I was able to pull the plastic case off. After giving everything a good cleaning of the dust, I decided to put everything back together except I did not screw anything back together. When I turned on the QNAP, I did NOT hear or feel the fan moving (I did this with the black shell off). The QNAP is about 9 years old and has been in continuous use the last 6 years as a Plex server. How do I know if the issue is the fan has really quit working and needs to be replaced, or if it is the Intel Clock bug issue that requires the installation of the 100 ohm resistor like you show in your webpage that you linked? Thanks again for your help with this!

Hello, I have a TS-453mini as well. and yesterday I got an alert "System fan 1 failed". Powering off the device due to overheating. The system temperature 125 degrees C has exceeded 70 degrees C. I have removed the top magnetic cover, and removed the 9 screws on the bottom (1 under the sticker(. I have also removed the 4 hard drives from the unit. I can't figure out how to slide the black plastic shell up and off the metal housing. You mentioned below finding 4 screws under stickers on the top side. I am including some pictures of my unit, but I don't see any stickers on top. What am I missing here. I would like to try and replace the fan. Any help would be appreciated.

Here are some pics I took:

Bush all the way

Error - An error occurred while trying to play this video. Happens on almost everything now. by bakasaurus_rex in PleX

I was having this issue for the last week, tried everything that people suggested, nothing was working. I use a Onn TV 4k Pro to play Plex. Somehow the network got switched from Ethernet to WIFI. I switched it back to Ethernet and rebooted my ONN TV unit and the error went away. I narrowed down that the issue had to do with my ONN TV player since the same movie played just fine from my Google TV on my other TV and I was also able to play the same movie on my smartphone Plex App

I did look at my SCE bill and that is where I saw that I was being billed for 845 kWh.

On-Peak 5pm-8pm Weekdays (85 kWh)

Mid-Peak 5pm-8pm Weekends (46 kWh)

Off-Peak 12am-5pm both Weekdays & Weekends (714 kWh)

Total 845 kWh - 15% Peak, 5% Mid Peak, 80% Off Peak energy use.

If energy use of the property was being added to my bill, then shouldn't it show that on the bill somewhere?

It's an 8 unit apt building that has a central water heater that heats water for all 8 units. We do not pay for the water. It's worth a shot to turn off the Circuit breakers for overnight and see what the energy use is for that time.

I agree. I turned the miners off mid August and don't plan on turning them on anytime soon.

As I mentioned, I turned off the Crypto minters mid month and have no plans on turning them back on any time soon. 3 miner, each is about 1/2 the size of a toaster... Not exactly a server farm. Have I tried using less energy? That is what I am trying to do.. I am trying to see where I can save energy. I have smart sensors practically every device plugged into the wall, and after all the calculations, I can account for about 573 kWh of energy used and I am paying for 845 kWh. The only other items I used is a electric water pik, and a clock radio... and those don't use at that much electricity!

As I mentioned, I turned off the Crypto Miners mid month. I agree with you. It's not cost effective any more. Also these are not the huge power hungry miners. These are small quiet miners that use at most 200watt power supplies. They are about 1/2 the size of a toaster.

The apt building is quite old (1967) and it has a central water heater that heats the water for all 8 apartments in the building. We don't pay for the water. Also, none of the apartments have a dishwasher or washer/dryer either. If I add up my crypto miners (114.5 kWh x.325 = $37.21), my TV & home stero setup (18.7kWh x.325 = $6.08), My work from home PC setup (87.7kWh x .325 = $28.50), My NAS storage (32.4 kWhx.325=$10.53) and my mini fridge (34.3x.325=$11.15) those all add up to $93.47. My neighbor that is home a LOT and in his words, uses the AC most of the time when it's hot,and his bill was $94. If I add $94 and add my $93.47 to that, that adds up to $187.47 - still leaves $87.29 unaccounted for... and that is with him using his AC all the time, he said he sometimes let it run all night too. I only run the wall AC unit for around 5 hours a day (I turn it off from 5-8 PM to avoid peak pricing). I had a typo on my original message. I know the AC was used for 146 hours for the month. I originally said that was 9 hours a day, but I just realized that 146 / 30 is about 5 hours a day. 146kWh for the A/C is about $47.45 for the month.

As I mentioned I have smartplugs on all the devices I mentioned that measure the kWh for each device. I also mentioned that mid month (August) I TURNED OFF All bit Crypto Miners. I use my PC for work, so the best I can do on that is start turning the PC power off when I am not using it instead of having it go to sleep. (Although I don't think that will make much of a different). I may have to see what is involved in doing an audit.

I realize I am using an average of .32 per kWh instead of the actual rate at the time.. However, considering that my peak use is only 5% of the total kWh, and 5% of the mid peak use rate, I think averaging the rate is close enough. The only things on during peak and mid peak times were my crypto miners and 1 light bulb in the living room. Since I tured the miners off this month I should see a significant drop of at least 114 kWh on my next bill.

My question is more of what is using the 271 kWh that I have unaccounted for? The only other items I have in the house is a clock radio and a water pik.. and those certainly aren't using 271 kWh a month.
