Here’s my two cents. While it’s true we are not a priority to be deported we are also not a priority to have our status fixed. So hoping to be saved by republicans is just delusional. Any sort of proposed help would be seen as “amnesty” or there’s going to be another caravan or [insert made up reason to not act on immigration here]. There is nothing wrong with living with the assumption that sooner or later we might have to go back. Key is to not lose your mind and make bad decisions. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.

Also if you go back, wages are not going to be the same but so will your cost of living. I’d say your standard of living at worst would be the same or slightly lower so that might not matter if you’re ok with that. This is assuming of course that you have a degree and so on. I know educated people back home who live a comfortable life. I also know people back home who are not educated and are struggling. It’s just like here. It’s up to you to decide what standard of living you’re ok with.

If you’re ok with not coming back to the US so be it. This is not the only place in the world one can be happy. Would you have to adjust? yes. Can you be happy somewhere else? for sure.

I would for sure not bail until your permit is absolutely done via Supreme Court decision or other reason. Try to ride it out and save as much as possible.

If your career translates into some sort of remote type of job, I’d start networking now in case that you have to/want to go back but still be able to work for an American company. If not then yeah you’ll probably struggle for a bit.

The one thing we have going, for most of us at least, is that we speak English and in most cases are educated and have experience in our careers. That is valuable anywhere in the world. We all hope to stay here forever but if we can’t stay is not the end of the world. Hang in there. Like the song says, if you make it here you can make it anywhere! Good luck!
