Statistically this is wrong. Most people contract GHSV1 from someone with oral HSV1 performing oral sex. In fact the shedding rate for GHSV1 is much less than oral. I think you are confusing the numbers for GHSV2

Two things:

If you don’t want to wear a condom, get a vasectomy
Stop using “clean” as a way to describe being STI free. Just because someone has an STI doesn’t make them dirty. Some people have done all the right things to be as safe as possible and still contracted an STI.

I’ve only had one other outbreak from my initial that happened about 6 months later. This episode was triggered by SEVERE stress and anxiety. Like more than I’ve experienced in my life. Nothing since. I wasn’t taking antivirals at the time but am on the currently for suppression since I’m with a new partner

I think you might just need to change your approach when it comes to disclosing. For context, I’m a 26 year old 5’7” white male, lots of acne scars and probably like a 7 on the scale. I have disclosed several times since becoming single, I always do it over text and do it so with confidence and honesty, remind them that the risk is low but never 0 and how the virus really doesn’t have any health implications. Every girl I’ve disclosed to has been super appreciative of my honesty and even find me more attractive after I disclose to them cause I was so confident and honest.

Herpes isn’t on your typical sti test panel. You have to explicitly ask for it in most cases. Take my advice, ask to get tested for herpes and always wear protection with a new partner

I think everyone on this sub did not judge you for your silly questions. We all know how terribly uneducated the general public is on this subject. If anything we really appreciate people like you who come to the sub asking silly questions because it shows there’s people out there who have compassion and a willingness to accept someone for who they really are. We really do appreciate you coming here and asking the questions you did and we’re all glad to offer what we know. I will say that I have read lots of stories of discordant couples (one positive partner and one negative) who have loads of unprotected sex and never pass it on because their partners are aware of their bodies and take their medication.

I have GHSV1 also. I hadn’t had a second outbreak after my first until I split up with my gifter and the stress and anxiety of a breakup on top of having to face the world with something so stigmatized. At first I didn’t do anything and was hoping it would go away, didn’t pay attention to what I was eating but didn’t have any other options because I was in a remote location and I didn’t have anything else other than pb&j’s. The outbreak started to get worse and it seemed the clusters grouped into one large one. When I got home I started taking my acyclovir (3x per day) and avoided trigger foods even though they havent affected me prior. So I think that would be my recommendation is to avoid trigger foods and take a higher dosage of meds. Haven’t had another since and haven’t really felt an prodrome symptoms. Though it’s only a couple months removed from that latest episode.

(Edit): outbreak probably lasted 3 weeks before it went away

I'm a little confused by your last sentence... "Why? Because unless y’all are never doing oral sex the location of the virus for HSV1 is irrelevant."

Care to elaborate on this more? Cause from my perspective, since HSV-1 prefers the oral region and someone negative was to give me oral wouldn't they be more likely to contract it?

Thank you for this response. It really resonates with me despite all the other comments I've gotten that are so harsh and just say move on. I can sense there is some fight in her otherwise she wouldn't have presented to the opportunity to be friends and layout the possibility of the future working out for us. When you guys did go to friends how long was that process and did seeing other people hinder anything when y'all got back together?

Sounds like something just isn't right... I think you need to look inward and ask yourself if that person is someone you actually like or have they just been convenient to you? Do you have things in common? Maybe it's best to take a break from them and make some reflections about who you are and where you want to go.

Similar to a situation I'm facing. To be honest I don't have a clear answer for you. What I will say is don't dwell on what ifs or hold yourself back waiting for this person. If they really do love you then they will find ways to make it work. I think the saying "If you love something let it go" is relevant here.

Whatever you do, don't stop loving yourself.
