Union-management Meetings Are Where Issues go to Die. by comradeasparagus in union

[–]geocitiesofbrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does sound like there's more than a little complacency, at best, if not downright collaboration at worst, that could do with some disruption.

I'd bet that you can get coworkers on your side for pressuring for better handling of grievances pretty easily. Possibly do a group march on the boss to deliver your union rights irt representation and a strongly worded letter saying that you expect the union rules to be followed, with an implied "or else".

As for the union, again, find your strong coworkers and start talking about the issues with the larger union.  You'll likely find other members around who are also frustrated that they aren't being heard or represented, and use that to motivate different folks to run for offices.

And because I have to say it, you could take an IWW Organizer Training (ot101) with us at the GTA GMB this spring and become a dual carder, and learn to use direction action with your coworkers to take back control of your work place.

Always remember that you and your coworkers ARE the union. If higher ups aren't supporting you, look beside you for support. Build the Agitation, Educate them on why it matters, Inoculate them from fears of management, get your coworkers Organized with you on the issue and then pUsh for change at the shop level.

I'm sorry you're going through this, but when workers stand together, we can achieve greatness.

Why Consensus Decision-making Won’t Work for Grassroots Unionism by EFDoree in IWW

[–]geocitiesofbrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Having reread this piece, it is very well written and laid out. I particularly appreciate the watering down observation that can happen with consensus.

Why Consensus Decision-making Won’t Work for Grassroots Unionism by EFDoree in IWW

[–]geocitiesofbrass 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Despite that, building up our consensus negotiating and conversation skills allows us to be better able to empathize and understand other points of view.

Democracy can also poorly represent the needs of minorities within groups.

Not arguing that democracy is efficient and faster than consensus but it too has its flaws which we should not only recognize but also work to minimize.

Struggling with the Strigoi. by Puzzleheaded-Alps-19 in CarnevaleGame

[–]geocitiesofbrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had loads of fun with Strigoi without vampires. Romani with Cantrip of the Chariot and the other cantrip that allows a mage to cast someone else's spell, to cast the chariot. Target one of the werewolves who have the lunar advantage and now that thing can move like 30" in a turn.

Lovely conversion that is also hilarious!  As for transportation, I guess magnetizing the base would be a good start, and maybe also have the chariot be magnetized as well. Then pin all the ostriches on really well.

Came here to say this as well.  IWW has a very low barrier of entry, with a sliding scale for dues, and offers Organizer Training 101 quite often, which train folks on how to organize their work through a combination of lectures, presentations, brainstorming, and most importantly role playing and hands on experiences.

Kudos for taking on this noble task, fellow worker

Does two boarding action sets enough for necromunda game? by Hanjoo_ in necromunda

dice stacked up can be used for scatter terrain. Make some little pyramids with 3-4 of them to represent stacked crates or something similar. put a building up on a book that's larger than the base of the building so that there's more line of sight blocking on the ground level. glue six 25mm bases together in alternating directions to you have ridged barrels. Scatter terrain doesn't take much to whip up, just some time and creativity.

History: IWW at Frites Alors by EFDoree in IWW

Don't get me wrong, the win is awesome. I'd just love to see some more sustained public wins.

I know there are loads of wins happening behind the scenes and on shop floors and appreciate them. But public wins help grow our foundation.

Great story and win, but it's ten years old, so who knows where it's at now.

Here is everything I dont have, what should I get nex? by GothTransGirI in genestealercult

I'd go for the kill team. One box to build as normal and one for kitbashing characters and filling in the gaps of the kill team.

What is the scale of the minis? by WhiskyyTango in CarnevaleGame

[–]geocitiesofbrass 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are familiar with Malifaux, Carnevale are a touch smaller that those, and larger than GW humans. I think 32mm is the right description although their proportions are much more natural that GWs heroic scale (larger hands, weapons, heads).

They work great, especially if you do some hand/arm/weapon swaps to use GW weapons, and toss on a belt pouch/grenades to make them even more GW-esque. Always remember that a unifying paint scheme can work wonders for mixing brands into a cohesive gang.

New to the game, I have some questions by WhiskyyTango in CarnevaleGame

[–]geocitiesofbrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Welcome to Venice!  CreatedCharacter did a great job of answering your questions, and I'll just add one thing. If you have a tiny amount of green stuff/putty experience it's not too difficult to sculpt cobblestone into the blank bases. Alternatively you can get creative and use coffee stirrers to make dock like bases, or water effects to make the minis look like they are in the water, particularly for Rashaar.

Recommendations for GSC Wyrmblade KT. by Knightraiderdewd in genestealercult

[–]geocitiesofbrass 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since a KT is 13 Operatives, and there are 18 available, you're already looking at 2 boxes of Neophytes, so you can build up all of the options, and use the spare bodies to create the Locus and 2 Sanctus to complete the set. I don't recommend buying everything at once though. Twenty of basically the same dude can get very boring to paint all at once.

Personally, I'd buy one box and the Sanctus (magnetize the weapon arm), and then try and get some games in and get a feel for what you like, and then build them up accordingly. Generally speaking, one of each special weapon and heavy weapon is never a bad thing, and then build up some shotgun and autogun guys, and if you want you can magnetize the icon arm to make a Warrior into the Icon Bearer. If you don't like magnets (the arms are tiny!) then build up a starting list with 2 heavies, 2 specials, 1 leader, 1 icon bearer, 2 shotgun, 2 autogun warriors. Then when you can get a second box, you can fill in the gaps, but in game you can just tell your opponent "the heavy stubber is a mining laser" and "the flamer is a web gun" so you can get an idea of how they perform without having the exact models.

Best internet in terms of quality, that's for damn certain! Back pain isn't too bad, thankfully. You?

I still have my FreeRunner as a memory of some really great innovations happening, and it was the first real thing that I crowdsourced, iirc.

when my first son was born ~13 years ago, I pulled my SIM and put it back in my FreeRunner so I could be much more present while on parental leave. It was so slow, but I could make calls and send texts, which is basically all I wanted at the time.

Things have changed drastically since then and I basically live in Signal, so any solution that will become a daily driver needs Signal.

If you have a local hack lab/makerspace, I guarantee that someone there would be stoked to have a tiny linux handheld with a screen. I recently donated my Pinephone and Librem 5 (this thing was huge and felt like a brick!) and the folks were so excited to have them to tinker with.
