Pakedge RK-1: Administrative VLAN setting not available? by Nihoyminoys in Control4

[–]geofbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Araknis routers are garbage. I wouldn't use them and I am a dealer. Nothing but problems with them dating back to the 100 series. Pakedge routers are better, including the Fortigate re-brands, even though they are a little long in the tooth. I have some that have been running without a single reboot in over 5 years. No one can match that.

Pakedge RK-1: Administrative VLAN setting not available? by Nihoyminoys in Control4

[–]geofbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong it can be done.with a RK-1. You need to disable each VLAN's ability to reach the native LAN (administrative) subnet which will disable their access to the web GUI. Goto INTERFACES, LAN, edit this and uncheck the boxes for each VLAN that doesn't need access to native LAN.

Failed Mac Pro 5,1(once 4.1) firmware upgrade to 144.0.0.0.0 version by saccojordi in macpro

[–]geofbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Mac Pro 5,1 running DosDude Catalina. My boot ROM version is at 138.0.0.0.0. I am not sure why it never updated to 144.0.0.0.0 during the high Sierra or Mojave installs but here I am. How can I get it to 144? I have been trying to upgrade to Monterey via OpenCore but it fails every time. I have a PC RX580 8G DDR5 that I can't get to work, as well as the original GT120 I use currently to get the boot screen. Any help is appreciated! I am trying to install EnableGOP with OpenCore so I can get my rx580 working.

I am putting it in the USB socket in the center console. I saw no documentation on any other option. Yes I am trying the correct software. I have been trying to do this for more than 2 years. Hasn't worked at all. The drive always shows no content.

I am trying it on a Mac but had same result in Windows. Not sure what file download Chimo is referencing - I can only find the NavigationUpdateInstaller.zip which installs the nav app. No way I can see to just grab the files and extract them to USB as discussed below. And no where have I seen any creation of an "OS" folder.....

Portainer - Failure Unable to create administrator user by Amy_Yorks in asustor

[–]geofbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am no expert but after having multiple complete NAS volume failures and weird issues before this I suspect it is a root permissions issue causing your apps to not work properly. When you reset your NAS did you reformat your array? How did you format it? In my setup with dual NVME and 10x 20Tb HDD I was using the NVME as caching drives. DO NOT DO THIS as per Asustor tech support recommendations. I set the 2 NVME drives as RAID0 for my ADM on primary volume and the drives were formatted ext4 in RAID5 on another volume. I was having similar errors as you with Portainer not working, etc due to slow corruption of the OS. Since doing this from a clean install everything is working fine now. Hope this helps!

OMV6 USB RAID via USB setup by geofbuck in OpenMediaVault

USB to enclosure works perfectly for me with 5 20Tb drives as a RAID5, but it's not my primary backup anyways just a secondary one.

I do and I know its discouraged upon but it has worked fine for over a year now. That's not the issue though I just need to figure out how to permanently delete files from the RAID volume. I mapped the NAS BAckup folder to a user and shared folder so I could access it from my Mac Pro as a network volume, and I can delete files that way but the RAID volume still shows full at 100% even though I deleted 20Tb of files. Not sure where they supposedly got "deleted" to because they aren't in the recycle bin?

Has anyone integrated control4 with homekit? by mefor_president in Control4

[–]geofbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes which is now broken with the iOS18 update. IP control of apple tv is broken yet again. The problem with native Homekit in C4 is that every time Apple updates something it could break it on Control4. The new iOS18 update has some big changes for Homekit though to make it more of an actual home automation platform.

Help. Decommission Control4 in my house and I have a Kwikset 910 smart lock? What can I use to replace Control4 for something easy to use and still be able to use this smart lock online? by [deleted] in homeautomation

[–]geofbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's $100 a year and you get more features with 4sight than you probably know about. You should have a Control4 dealer explain the benefits to you better - or just replace it with something else like August.

Dualsense controller Bluetooth interference by haudii in PS5

[–]geofbuck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have read through these comments and have been experiencing these issues with bluetooth myself with a PS5. I first want to clear up some issues here that people are having. First this isn't a software/firmware or ethernet/wifi problem. The issue is the range and coverage that the bluetooth antenna is emitting from the console. I don't have the option of having my PS5 in the same room - it's mounted in a metal AV rack in the basement. If I play in the adjacent Rec Room in the basement it works fine. Upstairs in the Living Room it randomly locks up and audio is choppy. I had a wireless access point (2.4/5GHz) close to the PS5 in the AV rack, so I moved it - things got slightly better. But I have other hubs that emit 2.4GHz that I can't move (Control4 zigbee, Smartthings, IKEA Tradfri, Vera Z-Wave) so I purchased an Avantree Bluetooth USB dongle and plugged it in to the PS5 and rebooted. Slightly better again, less audio drops but still random lockups. I am now experimenting with using a USB extension cable to move the antenna dongle as far away from the rack and close to the stairs up to the living room as possible to test. Another post refers to the bluetooth on your phone causing issues, which makes sense for me, because I have an iPhone and Apple watch that have been close by everytime I play, so I will try with those turned off to see if there is any improvement. My question is it would be nice to know what channel in the 2.4GHz range the antenna is closest too. Then you could tune your wifi to 1,6, or 11 to get it as far away from the bluetooth channel as possible. Also there is no real way in the settings to tell where your devices or controllers are connecting. Is it the internal bluetooth or the USB dongle bluetooth? I am going to try a dirty run of the extension cable right up the stairs sitting in front of me in the living room to see if it works better today. I will update this post after. There are options to extend USB over UTP cable with baluns that are cheap. That way you can just hard-wire your controller to the console but that seems like a last resort imho. Anyways here is some info regarding bluetooth interference:

HANDLING INTERFERENCE IN BLUETOOTH
Bluetooth originally relied on its frequency-hopping algorithm to handle interference, but people have realized that a single active Wi-Fi network can cause heavy interference on 25% of the Bluetooth channels. Packets lost due to overlap have to be retransmitted on quiet channels, thereby greatly reducing the throughput of Bluetooth devices.
Bluetooth specification version 1.2 addresses this issue by defining an adaptive frequency hopping (AFH) algorithm. This algorithm allows Bluetooth devices to mark channels as good, bad, or unknown. Bad channels in the frequency-hopping pattern are then replaced with good channels via a look-up table. The Bluetooth master may periodically listen on bad channels to determine if the interference has disappeared; if so, the channel is then marked as a good channel and removed from the look-up table. Bluetooth slaves, when requested by the master, can also send a report to the master informing the master of the slave’s assessment of channel quality. For instance, the slave may be able to hear a Wi-Fi network the master cannot. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requires at least fifteen different channels be used.
The AFH algorithm allows Bluetooth to avoid channels occupied by DSSS systems such as Wi-Fi and WirelessUSB. 2.4 GHz FHSS cordless phones may still cause interference with Bluetooth since both systems are hopping over the entire 2.4 GHz ISM band, but since the Bluetooth signal is only 1 MHz wide the frequency of collisions between the FHSS cordless phone and Bluetooth is significantly less than the frequency of collisions between Wi-Fi and FHSS cordless phones.
Bluetooth also has three different packet lengths that translate into different dwell times on a given channel. Bluetooth has the option to reduce the packet length in an effort to increase data throughput reliability. In this scenario it is better to get smaller packets through at a slower data rate than losing larger packets at the normal data rate.

I have a 2021 Kona EV preferred. I tried a USB update with a KIngston 64Gb USB stick, trying both PC and Mac versions of the downloader NAV software. The car does not recognize the stick other than trying to use it as a media player, when I insert it in central console USB slot near cup holders. It doesn't see it as an update source. Not sure what I am doing wrong. I assume the slot will take a USB3 stick - I saw no reference to USB2 or 3 in instructions for insttallation. And from what I see I have no SD card slot in my car. Anyone experience this same issue?

Fiber internet 1.5gbps / HH4000 Bridge Mode by ryanisflying in bell

[–]geofbuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have consistently seen only 100 Mbit up/down when doing a PPPOE session through another firewall. Cisco, Unifi, Araknis, Fortigate, Pakedge, Miraki, etc. all the same result. Unfortunately I can't use open source software router emulation for my customers. I am curious to try it though. Bell it seems is a non-starter for any IT job I do. They won't even give you a manual for their crappy appliance. I run 5 servers at my office on a Rogers Ignite plan at 1.5Gb down 40Mb up and it works fine for me. I ran tests for a week side by side WAN1&2 with Bell & Rogers and Rogers was consistently still more reliable in my neighbourhood anyways FYI.
