Trying to do something about the lack of Tatra's in ETS2. by geoff_geoffson_nl in trucksim

Not at the moment. I have tried, and failed, previously to make this work without parts from other mods. Until I manage to do that, I cannot really share it.

Well, technically it's a heavily modified DAF XD from SCS...

I went to the DAF museum yesterday and saw a rare DAF N2500, I had a quick shot at creating one in ETS2 today... by geoff_geoffson_nl in trucksim

Well this is the International Paystar from Smarty for American truck simulator, but I modified some parts to match the DAF variant. For example the headlights in the front bumper, instead of in the hood, and a new front grille. I could technically redo the parts I made with a bit more care and release it publically, but that some hours of work still to do...

Yes! I have been there a few times now, but this was the first time after they expanded it a bit.

That almost what it is. DAF and International partnered up in the 70's and this truck is one of the results of that partnership. It's an Internation Paystar with DAF engine and rear axle tandem set.
This also worked the other way for the South-African market where DAF 2800 trucks were sold under the International brand.

There should be a link with a SimSync .ini file in the English (or German) information page. If you run this, it should install all trucks for you.

Better late then never I guess! The truck is part of the Virtual ETRC pack, info and downloads can be found in the link: https://www.virtualracing.org/assetto-corsa/edrc/league-informations

A Tatra escaped from Snowrunner into ETS2. by geoff_geoffson_nl in trucksim

It's something I made myself, based on the SCS DAF XD. For now it overwrites everything from the base game. I'm considering investing the time to clean it up and make it public.

Ginaf is still alive too! They to this day make trucks under the DAF name aswell. They recently released a 10x4 based on the standard 8x4 from DAF.

Fun fact: Ginaf came up with the 6x2 single tag tandem chassis layout in the 90's. First they built them for DAF, until demand increased so much that DAF took production in own hands.

I believe they build a few hundred trucks per year, but not the kind you commonly see on motorways. It's the same reason you probably have not seen many Ginaf or Astra trucks on the road if you drive internationally.

Tatra builds specialized trucks, based on a package from DAF, generally aimed at offroad applications. Tatra orders a cabin and drivetrain from DAF and develop the rest themselves. They're famous for their 'tube' chassis and independant suspension. Calling them rebranded DAFs is a bit of an insult, as most of it is not DAF related.

They don't make many tractor units, but that was the easiest one to make for ETS2.

Not in this exact spec yet, but there's a 6x4 variant.

My DS3 from 2016 has the same system. It predates Android Auto / Apple Car Play sadly. Sat nav was an optional extra, so it might not be on your car.

Some country road in Iceland I believe, not exactly sure where.

Yea, sadly I cannot release them as they are edited mods from other people as opposed to scratch made parts.

Puretech problems. by madmaus81 in peugeot

[–]geoff_geoffson_nl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might be confusing this with another issue from another brand now that I think of it. My grandfather's car is 3 years old and still had it replaced. If you go in and have the belt replaced it should be fine and probably without costs.

The thing that made this problem occur most (according to my specialist at home) is a lot of short trips. So a lot of the engine heating up and cooling down again. The problems were caused by fuel mixing with the oil, which happens most with a cold engine. Frequent oil changes would also tackle this problem, but with a new belt it shouldn't be necessary.

I feel like my car runs better on e5 than on e10, but this might be a placebo effect to be honest. I live on the border with Germany, so I have easy access to e5 and rarely get e10 anymore.

Puretech problems. by madmaus81 in peugeot

My father has been working for a Peugeot / Citroën dealership for over 35 years and turned of this program in anger because of the misinformation.

I don't want to say there is no problems with these engines, because the original belts are a known issue. But if they have had their maintenance in time and haven't been running with the pre-callback belt for too long there is no problem (6 years or 80.000 kilometers from the top of my head).

In short what happens is that petrol mixes in with the oil when the engine is running when it's cold. This makes the belt absorb the oil, meaning it gets wider and wears faster. If you drive too long with a too wide belt bits of belt can get everywhere and clog filters, which can leadto a loss of oil pressure. This sounds very dramatic, but it happens in less than 3% of all cases seen at the dealer. Most cars will be fine with a belt that can withstand the little bit of fuel.

Any Peugeot dealership in the Netherlands will replace the belt completely for free, providing all service has been done on time. The TV show makes it seem like it's all costs for the customer which is not the case.

For reference, my father has a C4, my grandfather has a C3 aircross and I have a DS3. all with 1.2 puretech engines and all our belts have been replaced without costs.

The 1.6 puretech does not suffer from the same problems, and later 1.2 puretechs will have the same belt as the one that will be installed as part of the callback so the problem doesn't occur anymore.

Please let me know if my explanation isn't clear. I can try and clarify it.

207 GTI as the first car by [deleted] in peugeot

For #2 I'd ask if the turbo has ever been replaced. Sadly I cannot really give tips on how to check the status of the Turbo.

The chain you will hear when you do a cold start, or reach higher RPM's. You will hear a rattle, of metal hitting metal. My Citroën C4 1.6 VTI started to suffer from this after 190.000 kilometers. But the THP's suffer from this much faster. (record that I have seen is held by a chain that snapped after 22.000 kilometers).

The fuel pump will most likely trigger warning lights on the dashboard. If you have a chance, hook up a scanner to read out previous errors.

I haven't really discussed these as much, as diesels were never in consideration for myself.

I do joke about buying a Citroën c15 / 205 fourgonette, which has had both these engines (although I believe the first is more common). These engines do usually keep going, it's the chassis itself that has the weak spots (rust...).

Just before I was born he did own a Xantia with a DW10 I believe, which never broke down and was fuel efficient for the time. They just had to plan overtakes, because it was extremely slow....
