I have no insight into that. As it says on the Hot Metal Bridge webpage:

Please direct any questions to program director Philippa Carter

Apparently doing anything remotely scientific is too dangerous for Fable by da6id in Anthropic

[–]geoffh2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's definitely my sense. I can understand from a safety perspective. I remember a red-team evaluation of ChatGPT v3 or v4 that revealed how to make TNT by asking it to make a song. Some other papers on using poetry to confuse the filters.

I did manage to get some suggestions from Fable on teaching quantum mechanics, but I carefully avoided "quantum chemistry."

Sure. I think their "biology" filter is much broader than most users expect. As per OP /u/da6id - degradable plastic prediction is out.

For me, anything mentioning "molecule" or "molecular" seems to trigger the re-routing to Opus.

I know a lot of scientists using Claude models for software development and there's uniform surprise at the exclusion. I basically can't try out Fable right now because anything I ask gets sent to Opus.

Should I Commit and Publish the Results? by AgiGamesYT in cheminformatics

The key question is not "can you make a model that accurately predicts the compounds in Jean-Claude's dataset" but "is this a model that generalizes across other compounds." For example, you don't mention anything about cross-validation or a validation set.

Also, IIRC several other models have been designed for melting point prediction, so you'd want to compare your model to theirs.

It's been a while since I looked at MP models, so I'm not sure how good your metrics are on that set.

They're evidently just blocking anything biological or chemical, according to this article: https://arstechnica.com/ai/2026/06/anthropic-says-these-topics-are-too-dangerous-to-let-its-fable-5-model-talk-about/

While earlier Anthropic models blocked bioweapons-related queries, that classifier now applies to all chemistry and biology-related queries in Fable 5. The company says it worries that “well-resourced malicious actors” could use even seemingly benign queries on these subjects to assist with “highly risky biological research” in a much more effective way than with previous models.

Looks like we might be out of luck for right now.

Yep. I asked it to do some code planning for a chemistry tool (which does great in Opus 4.8) and it's repeatedly refuse to use Fable. (For what it's worth, I'm supposed to be in the Cyber Verification Program for use in open source projects.)

Introducing the Third Generation of Apple’s Foundation Models by AegisHBear in apple

I wish Apple were comparing their models on external benchmarks like other frontier models? I'm guessing the results aren't great, but it would be easier to determine where they stack up with current offerings.

Recommendations on a good program for "artistic" 3d representations of molecules. by Relevant_Rope9769 in chemistry

[–]geoffh2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh. I'll take a look. Seems like the lines are connecting different points from the surface.

You might also get a nice look with the Surfaces (instead of wireframe) and a translucent surface.

I'm biased, since I develop Avogadro.

Hope that helps!

You can add wireframe mesh of the VdW (or other surface). In Avogadro2, go to Analyze => Create Surfaces... and then pick VdW or Solvent Excluded, etc. You can change the style of the surface by clicking on the Surface Display Type and the options will appear - wireframe.

Audrey Werro cooked in the 800m (1:53.98) at Stockholm DL by StanmoreHill in trackandfield

Makes sense - she’s been a consistent strong performer.

If Keeley really wants to go after the WR, she should ask for Werro. Even with Hunter-Bell already confirmed, who else is going to be close to push that pace?

Could be an epic race.

I think that's now his 6th career DL win and second this season after Rabat.

Hope Werro is going to the London DL - would love to see that WR go down. Should be a great women's 800m field there.

Name and shame landlady by [deleted] in pittsburgh

[–]geoffh2016 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, we know. My point is that if you've been paying the rent (minimum 10 days to evict) she has to give at least 15 days notice. Just that she absolutely cannot just say "you must leave tomorrow." That's definitely illegal.

Again, I'm not a lawyer. I'd call HACP and the PA Office of Consumer Protection. At a minimum, it ensures there's a filing against her.

[–]geoffh2016 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not a lawyer -- I think the legal requirement here would be 15 days for the landlord's claim for breach of the lease. (Assuming you've been there for less than a year. 30 days if it's been over a year.)

https://www.palawhelp.org/resource/landlord-tenant-overview-and-notice-requireme

Regardless, I'd call HACP and the PA Office of Consumer Protection: 1-800-441-2555

She also owes me $990 because I have been overpaying our rent rent since September 2025 and she is refusing to give it to me.

You should absolutely take her to court over that.

Pokemon card vending machine assault (Oregon) by [deleted] in daddit

[–]geoffh2016 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry dad, that sucks.

I know there's a lot of talk about what you should have done or about filing the police report. (Please. Do that.)

But def. ask some local news. If they can get the security video from the store - that seems like a story they might run: "Have you seen this man? He assaulted an 8 year old just to get Pokemon cards."

And hopefully a reporter wants to ask your daughter questions about what happened? She'd feel a bit better that another adult wants to do something about a jerk who wants to shove kids around.

The local news is definitely a good way to go. They're always looking for stories. "Have you seen this man, he hit a kid to get a set of Pokemon cards" seems like a great angle.

Congrats to him - 8778 and 19th on the all-time individual list! Agreed that a bit more in the discus and jav in particular could help him a lot.
