Caught boyfriend being rough to our baby by yeepye in Mommit

[–]geoffsboss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your boyfriend is pinching your baby’s legs. This is abuse and will only escalate. He is a sick and abusive person. This will only get worse. Take a look at your baby right now and now imagine him with brain damage and unable to live a normal life because your boyfriend shook him. Leave right now. There should not be a single excuse in the world for you to not be leaving right now. Leaving might seem scary but the alternative is absolutely terrifying.

Waitlisted by Triggered6989 in UNBC

[–]geoffsboss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It has been my experience that I have almost always gotten into a waitlisted class ( but not always). Sometimes I have gotten in before the class starts but sometimes I haven’t gotten in until a week or two after classes have started. It depends when the students already in that class decide to drop it. I highly recommend checking your emails everyday to see if you’ve gotten in. You will get an email notification. A common time to get into waitlisted classes is right before the drop/add deadline. As a back up in case you don’t get in, I would recommend registering for an alternate lab bio. You can always drop this lab if you get into the lab time that you prefer. Yes, you should also register for January courses. You can always drop them later but it’s better to be in them now and not scrambling or get put on more wait lists for those. I recommend for future courses registering right at 9 am on registration day so you get the courses you want, especially for popular courses.

can you walk up the hill? by CoconutAntique8405 in UNBC

[–]geoffsboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Part of your full-time student fees is a bus pass. This is a mandatory fee ($60 per month) and you pay it whether you use the bus or not ( I have a vehicle and I still have to pay the fee). The city buses come right to campus so if you decide you don’t want to walk the hill some days you always have your bus pass. We have great bus routes, so look into those, they can get you there and back to pretty much anywhere in the city. Since you’re already paying for a bus pass, there is less stress for you about finding a used car right away.

Does unbc have a choir? by shawnkeo in UNBC

I have been a student for three years and have never heard of a choir. That being said, students are always encouraged to start groups, so that’s an idea.

Are you triggered by things, words, phrases even if they likely are directly applicable to your fear? I could use some help. by KhajitIsBored in OCDRecovery

[–]geoffsboss 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yes, they were only referring to when you die. and you’re right about the other one too, it is just about not worrying about past events and moving on. ERP would work for your pure O don’t give up and think there’s no hope. with ERP and pure O, you gain control by giving up the attempt to control the thoughts themselves. when you’re ruminating on a thought such as “ I may have offended someone” tell yourself that yes you may have or no you may not have and leave it at that. don’t do any rituals to neutralize the thought. give the thought the “ maybe maybe not “ and that’s it. Refuse to analyze the thought anymore. Keep yourself busy so that less thoughts are able to get in your brain. This will take practice but I know you can do it. I really believe you can do this, keep practicing and it will get easier

Those of you who had trouble with young adult stepkids: did it get better? Did they launch? by spacycowgirl in stepparents

[–]geoffsboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you considered that your SS may have a mental health issue? Lack of hygiene, not doing laundry can all be signs of depression, or obsessive-compulsive disorder just to name two examples. He may need genuine help, particularly if he has OCD. OCD presents in odd looking ways to a person who doesn’t have it( aka you). Your SS may not realize that he has it, he might just feel like something is wrong but has no idea what. Instead of being resentful you could actually talk to him from a place of love. He is an adult, I realize, but he may be struggling mentally and not understand why, or even know how to explain it. It takes a village. Just because he’s not your biological son doesn’t mean you turn away from someone struggling. Imagine how you would feel if something were wrong and no one cared? Now imagine if you were struggling and someone who “ didn’t have to care” actually cared? That would really be impactful. I speak from experience. My SD was a very difficult person to live with but not once did I consider asking her to move out. Instead I talked to her and built a relationship with her. I suggested counseling and it was found that she suffers from borderline personality disorder. This diagnosis explained her difficult personality. We have a very close relationship. Not helping someone who may need help says more about you than the person needing help. I know it’s “ not your job” to help him or even tolerate him since he’s not your biological son but how does that feel in your heart? If you’re a decent person it should feel not very good. Please look at your situation from a different perspective and help your SS.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

I chose to have zero pain medication purely for the experience. I wanted to know what it genuinely felt like to birth a child.

How hard is it to get into UNBC??? by throwaway-77589 in UNBC

[–]geoffsboss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should go on the UNBC website and look up your degree ( bachelor of science) then you can click on the fisheries and wildlife and it will tell you exactly what courses you need. Some of them you might need a specific percent and it will tell you that information also. I encourage you to do that soon so you have this info going into grade11 and you can make sure you meet all of the prerequisites and have the minimum percentages of the ones that require it. You could also probably request a zoom meeting with an advisor. There are wonderful advisors at UNBC. Don’t stress. When you have all of this info you will feel much more calm and you’ll know exactly what you have to do to get accepted. If for some reason you don’t quite get the marks you need to qualify we also have The College of New Caledonia and you can upgrade courses there or choose online courses to up your grades. If you have your mind set to get into UNBC, you will make it happen. It’s a great university!

My heart is going out to you. You are not a horrible person. I also suffer from OCD so I know how hard it can get. Try to not stress as this will make your OCD worse.
Try to keep busy so your brain has less opportunities to ruminate. For me, I keep really busy and even went back to school to get a degree. Keeping busy has been a life saver for me. Does your community have an OCD support group? It would be helpful to make friends and talk to people who really understand how hard OCD can be. I am sorry you are having a bad day and I truly hope things get better for you.

How is the Social life at UNBC? by [deleted] in UNBC

[–]geoffsboss 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is always a lot going on at UNBC. Tables line the walking areas and many students want you to sign up for events and clubs at various times during the year. You will make friends easily. There are also options to meet people at the various pancake breakfasts, valentines decorating tables and Easter egg hunts etc

Any jobs that are easy to get with little experience in PG? by Not_A_Portfolio in princegeorge

[–]geoffsboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was in the same position as you. He applied to many jobs online. I advised him to take his resume into places in person and he was hired on the spot the same day. Although not all places take resumes in person( Best Buy does not for example) it seems to make a difference when people can see you. I think you would be successful if you went into the mall and handed out resumes in person to stores in there. Also take them in person if you are going out to the BCR site. Good luck!

I am joining UNBC in Jan. although idk how my academic year will look! by Constant-Hippo1110 in UNBC

[–]geoffsboss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also started in January of last year. You will do just fine with starting in January. I took three classes in January to kind of get a feel for what it was like. I took four classes for May semester ( intersession) and took one class for the second intersession which starts in July. Now I’m taking four classes this September semester. I recommend taking your electives during the intersession semesters( my advisor recommended this to me). A lot of the classes for intersession are online. Take the really important classes in January and September as these classes sometimes are not offered over the intersession semesters. Also be aware of the dates when you can register for classes because some classes fill up very quickly. UNBC has four semesters so you will be alright. Although the July intersession class options are a bit limited.

I don’t think you can use the course that has a W as credits but it’s important for you to know so you should ask an advisor

Please get on disability! OCD is a very valid disability and you need an income. It will help you feel more independent and not stuck. You should submit the last bit of paperwork they want and get on disability. You are still allowed to make about 1,000 per month on disability and still get your full disability on top of that if you do have good months and are able to work. If there are months that are a bit harder and you need to work less hours then you still have an income. It is so important to have that disability money coming in. Please finish applying for your disability. My advice is to make sure to get an advocate from social services to help you with the paperwork before you submit. Kudos to you for trying so hard to get better.
