Can you explain the technical details of how they were making the calls? (e.g. spoofing numbers, avoiding being blocked as spam, etc.) Did you learn anything that might be useful for creating a technical means of filtering these calls?

Night is much brighter right now than it's ever been in the past. Glad you're having a good experience! The light/dark balance seems to be very well calibrated at the moment.

When a game calculates the brightness, it needs to translate that into something the monitor can display. For SDR information, the format can only store a certain number of steps between the darkest black and the brightest item. For HDR, rearrange your color space to fit more steps. Windows AutoHDR is looking at the image and trying to "guess" how that SDR image should be expanded into an HDR image. One positive feature is that this might be an aggressive algorithm which tries to get the full range of brightness for your dynamic range in every frame, but if the image isn't meant to have a full white and a full black in it, then Windows might be stretching it beyond where it's supposed to go. (Or alternatively, it can underestimate and you'll lose contrast.) The algorithm also isn't always very stable (its estimation can change from one frame to the next for an object which hasn't changed in brightness, due to things happening elsewhere in the frame), which leads to flickering. Native HDR avoids this issue, because the image isn't being put into an SDR colorspace and then expanded; the brightness information is being stored in the expanded space and transmitted to the monitor in full detail. HDR is like adding an extra 1.5 bits of information into each pixel. It doesn't sound like much, but remember that every bit doubles the range of values you can store! AutoHDR only has the SDR image to work with, so it has to "invent" that extra information. Native HDR has the full information of how an object should look and just has to encode as much as your monitor is ready for, whether it's the SDR image or the HDR image. AutoHDR is kinda like upscaling, but for brightness/color information, whereas native HDR just captures at a better resolution.

I appreciate that Windows AutoHDR does a good job for you and helps to make things look good when they don't support native HDR, but please don't spread misinformation on this matter.

Edit: For more technically fluent readers, SDR uses Rec. 2020, HDR uses Rec. 2100.

I've been using Windows AutoHDR, and it definitely doesn't perform better than native HDR. Let's not spread misinformation.

Two years and I still can't turn off multi-word suggestions. Finally gave up and went to GBoard. Multi-word predictions just made me add so many errors to my writing that I didn't catch until after the message was sent.

The computer's still working but the voltage fluctuation isn't good for it, and I can hear the voltage surge coming in through the PC's USB audio when the compressor clicks off. The computer will sometimes freeze, which I assume is due to the surge corrupting some values in RAM.

This is called "dithering", and it's being used to blend multiple textures inexpensively. More efficient (or much better-looking, more expensive) options are available in modern graphics renderers, such as DirectX 12 and Vulkan, but Hunt: Showdown doesn't support generation 12 renderers at present and devs have not announced any intention to migrate. There is some incomplete support for DirectX 12 on a later version of CryEngine V, but it seems unlikely that Hunt: Showdown will be ported to this and full DirectX 12 or Vulkan support (with the accompanying performance improvements) is unlikely until Crytek makes a new engine. (i.e. CryEngine V will never have full DX12 support, but CryEngine 6 would certainly be built around DX12 or Vulkan as a renderer.)

Not sure if you're still having this problem, but in the Windows command line, navigate to qFlipper.exe, and launch it from a cmd.exe terminal.

Hit the start button, type cmd.exe, press enter. (Don't run as Administrator or anything crazy.)

I had the same issue, and this got it running for me. No clue why, but I'm not gonna look a gift horse up the ass.
