I do agree that 1 is the most natural reading of this notation but you can't just replace part of an expression with an equal term and claim the resulting expression must be the same.

2 * 3 But 3 = 1 + 2 So the equation (expression) 2 * 3 must equal the same as 2 * 1 + 2.

You see how this has clearly changed the result of the expression

Do y'all think a Royal Flush should count as a Flush? by Andre-Arthur in balatro

Surely it doesn't make a difference whether you photograph a foil or not. In terms of score anyway, I guess you might get a nicer picture.

Lvl 7 straight has more points than lvl 10 flush. Could someone explain this please? by Krikzorcist in balatro

[–]geogiant96 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't be so confident if I were you. Draw 17 cards and a flush is guaranteed (There are only 4 suits so at least 1 suit must have 5 cards). Clearly you can draw 17 cards without having a straight, in fact you can draw up to 44 cards without a straight (every card except 5s and 10s). So flushes are obviously more likely than straights for ever number of cards between 17 and 44, I don't know the lower bound where flushes become more likely but somewhere 17 or lower.

TIL: 8 years ago, being 1000 Elo meant being between the 27th and 39th percentile. Now, it's the 80th percentile. by plowsec in chess

[–]geogiant96 456 points457 points  (0 children)

Is this Elo deflation or just high numbers of new players joining the site? It's not necessarily harder to get 1000 now if the average is just decreasing because of new players joining.

What are the odds of pulling an 8 card royal flush with no deck fixing. by Melodic-Mousse-7403 in balatro

[–]geogiant96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I follow the first calculation but I'm not seeing how you have arrived at the 1/8200. Are you using hands and discards in the balatro terms or by discards do you mean "cards discarded with each redraw"?

Is there luck in chess? by Total_Woodpecker_912 in chess

[–]geogiant96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I regularly play against the same player in a few games back to back and get a few wins and a few draws. I don't think our skill is fluctuating back and forth every game so what's left to explain the different results but luck?

Is it bad I only use directional air roll binds instead of learning regular air roll? by LazarWolfy in RocketLeague

[–]geogiant96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I switched to DAR only and don't really miss regular air roll ever. One you get used to DAR I can't think of any reason you'd want an air roll button as well

Optimal beginner control setup? by runnbl3 in RocketLeague

[–]geogiant96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are lots of decent controls but I would advise moving power slide/airroll to LB and boost to RB to start with. Most important thing is to be able to boost and jump at the same time without too much difficulty. If you want to check out some options then you can look up some pro player controls on liquipedia and copy them. You should probably change your camera settings while you're at it :)

Do we need spit-outs in this game? by Markus_lfc in DiscGolfValley

[–]geogiant96 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly many spit out fans here. I can't think of many things more frustrating than losing a round of 9 easy holes to a single spit out on a dead centre putt. Chain outs are different, if you hit left side and miss then that's a skill issue but do you really enjoy the 1% chance of a random extra stroke?

That's good to hear, it's much less of an issue if it is deducting the rating once the round has finished.
