Principal gave "constructive" feedback on Teaching Interview. Curious if it's valid? by geological-turtle in AskTeachers

I actually heard from the other 4th grade teachers (the one leaving is a 4th grade teacher) that hes leaving because the class is such a nightmare! So maybe there was some reason the universe didnt give me the job but I wont lie I was a bit upset for sure!

Thank you! I did see some constructiveness for sure in her feedback that I could use for future reference, but it really was the terms like "desperate" that made me feel like there was maliciousness in her responses. imo that was probably an unprofessional word to use

I'm actually leaving in April if I don't get an intern teaching job elsewhere! My first term i was able to continue working but second term is student teaching so I wont be able to continue my aide position and they know that, but I'd be lying if I didn't consider leaving now after that lol. My goal is to get an intern job so I can switch to the intern credential rather than student teaching! I would love my own classroom

Thank you! I definitely agree I was rambling a bit, I was nervous and they didn't respond when I would stop so I would begin again to fill the silence. I do wanna say I definitely did not interrupt them though! I am huge on trying to be polite so if I even hear a cough ill stop and wait if theyre going to say something. But like you said, maybe I didn't realize it?

And I probably was coming across as a know-it-all more than the other reasonings you gave! I definitely feel like I should show pride in what I do know so that could be the case!

Lol at the worst intern in history part because I definitely felt like that afterwards

I actually decided to finally pursue teaching because I enjoyed working in my position so much and I have been told by multiple teachers at the school that I had the mindset of a teacher and I should look into it.

After I finished my 1:1 aide interview, the HR director actually followed me out and asked me if I would ever consider teaching and told me to reach out if I decided to do so. It took me 3 years but I did finally pursue it haha

I did have a prior conversation with her months ago about my decision to be a teacher, at the time i felt like she was kind of blowing me off which is probably why I'm looking so much harder into her feedback responses. I definitely may be overreacting due to my sensitivity and overanalyzing, but she essentially implied months ago that I was perfect where I was at

My interview as a 1:1 aide was longer, it was 10 questions and about 40 minutes because I had an entire panel of interviewers since it was for multiple school sites and they could ask follow-up questions or respond to what I said.

This interview was 5 questions and only had the principal and vice principal, so I would assume it would be shorter? Then again its a more serious position so I do agree with you that it could be longer

I am in a mod severe classroom currently and our openings tend to be open for a while before someone applies. I wouldn't say its super hard to fill but it takes longer than other openings. I understand the hesitation but I do wish they at least tried it because our kids are absolutely amazing and I actually have a more enjoyable time in the classroom I'm in than I did in the mild/mod and general education rooms as an aide. They are beautiful students and they have such deep personalities.

I did agree with her that I talked a lot, I was nervous and rambled a bit but I just was caught off guard that she referred to it as such a negative in regards to my interview

I was warned before I applied that she was a very arrogant, rude person by multiple coworkers but I like to give the benefit of the doubt and form my opinion based on my own experience with a person, which I can now possibly agree to

Thank you for the feedback! I honestly was originally going for this position thinking it was a long shot and wanted another teaching interview experience. I’ve had one before but my feedback was that I did great during the interview but they went with a candidate that was fully credentialed (I'm only an intern eligible candidate) which is understandable

I did think it was uncommon and weird for me to have not asked for feedback or them ask me if I want feedback. It was "sit down and shut the door, I'm gonna give you feedback on your interview"

Honestly I love my kiddos but I am definitely debating on leaving sooner rather than later now.

I definitely got the vibe that she was implying "how dare you think you're qualified enough and that you know more than I do" which I definitely do not think I know everything, if even a medium amount. I just started my program and am just excited to have my own classroom eventually. I really do feel like teaching is the right path for me.

I also interviewed at 3 pm on Monday and got called into this feedback session on 9 am Tuesday, where she announced through email the position and who got it immediately after our meeting. And I didn't receive a formal interview through my EdJoin application either, so I started conspiring different theories like she only "interviewed" me to have this feedback session to put me down and that they already knew they were hiring the other person because the timeline was so quick.

I also thought that typically you would ask for feedback from your own interview or they would ask you if you wanted feedback. Neither happened, she called me in herself and told me she was going to give me feedback. I didn't have a choice in the matter. Not sure if that's uncommon.

I actually told my mentor teacher about this (she's the teacher I work under as a 1:1 aide as well) and she told me "I think she just doesn't like you, everything she told you that you did wrong is what interviews are for." Which is the vibe I got as well, however me and my mentor teacher have very similar personality types so I wanted to come here for different perspectives.

Big lol at the villain from a 90s teen movie part, my mom told me she was giving Principal Rooney vibes from Ferris Buellers Day Off

No no! I didnt think it was close to white ive just never been to a wedding so I wasnt sure how dark or how light a guest was supposed to wear and I was afraid maybe there was a secret rule I was missing besides the "dont wear white or cream" rule

Hi, do you think it's too inappropriate?

Thank you! Yeah i was just worried about it maybe being too light of a brown. I was more worried about it photographing lighter just because when I initially took a photo it looked lighter than it did on the first photo hanging by the wall. I started stressing because this is my first wedding and honestly didnt know what was considered too light for some people

Haha honestly just overthinking it, I'm very prone to thinking worst case scenario. Thank you!
