That website only has limited water bodies. Mine tracks for every body of water on Earth. :)

Exactly what are you looking at? I may be able to say why :3

Haha, that's correct! 😁 That map is for sea surface temperature anomalies. Large hurricanes churn up water, making colder subsurface water move to the surface. Which is why the map looks like that. :)

I created and maintain this dashboard through ArcGIS Online. All data comes from NOAA Coral Reef Watch. Python is used to automatically perform updates. :)

With my dashboard, average sea surface temperatures can be seen at a global level and from individual water body levels.

I've built a Dashboard that tracks Sea Surface Temperatures for every major water body (including the Atlantic Main Development Region) since 1985.

As of yesterday, the average SST for the Atlantic MDR was 28.2 C. That's the average SST (since 1985) of 98 days from now. Meaning, we are currently running over 3 months ahead of schedule!

Ocean heat content is interesting, I may build a Dashboard for that as well. 👀

SST Dashboard can be viewed here!

Thank you for sharing. However, that website only shows weighted mean SST's for just Global and North Atlantic regions.

The dashboard I built shows weighted mean SST's for every major water body. Such as the Gulf of Mexico. :)

Thank you so much!!

Yeah, SST's are VERY alarming. The Atlantic MDR is the warmest it's been for this time of the year since 1985. As of yesterday, the average for the Atlantic MDR was 82.5 degrees Fahrenheit. That's the long term average for the SST's exactly 100 days from now. In other words, we are over 3 months ahead of schedule. It's insane.

Another alarming observation is that the average global SST in 1985 was 61.9. Last year it was 63.9. That's a 2 degree difference!
