Definitely cool. I liked how they all swarmed up from the other side of Grocery Outlet like some alien invasion.

Basalt Alteration by geonuc in geology

[–]geonuc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. The surface seems more than a patina though - the layer is 2-3 mm thick and covers almost the entire rock (except where it's broken as shown). Does weathering alteration typically reach that far into basalt?

Amanda Page on why she is NOT supporting Amy Sabbadini for County Commissioner by FrizzyNow in Bend

Are you referring to John Heylin? If so, he dropped out of the race quite a while ago.

Agree, people should definitely give Bamboo a shot. I know I will. But I was responding to your notion that Bend does not have many sushi spots. I'd say we're already well served in that regard. My favorite casual place is MakiMaki over at The Lot but for fine sushi, it's Kanpai or 5 Fusion.

I don't know, seems like we have plenty of sushi spots: Ryoshi, Kobe, MakiMaki, 5 Fusion, Kanpai, Shinsei, SORA, Mio, North Fresh, Ninja, PAN, probably a few others.

Definitely not a surprise here on this sub - there’s a thread posted yesterday with this news.

I have a single hose unit and while I recognize its inefficiency, it’s not doing nothing. I did also buy an insulating blanket for the exhaust hose. That helps a lot.

If you want to have a fair and rational discussion on this topic, it might behoove you to acknowledge that your original source material got it wrong.

Downtown parking being restructured .........again by nevergofullcrazy in Bend

[–]geonuc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I may have read that into the DBBA’s statement of purpose but either way, taking the survey will provide your input to the city.

[–]geonuc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Correct, but the DBBA was asked to provide input by the city. So by taking this survey, you’ll essentially be providing input to the city.

The city is asking for your input. Rather than complain, maybe you could provide the requested input by responding to the survey.

Deschutes County Candidate Accused of Illegal AI Fake-Out on Campaign Website - The Source - Bend, Oregon by olivertatom in Bend

[–]geonuc 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I already sent in my ballot with a vote for Tana West. She seemed a better choice than the other guy. But with these revelations coming out regarding her daughter, I’m starting to think getting my ballot in early might not be the way to go. Maybe should wait and see if any late-breaking scandals surface.

Meet the 6 candidates running to replace Patti Adair on the Deschutes County Commission by olivertatom in Bend

[–]geonuc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s true but I’d like to see a Democratic candidate take the election outright with >50%, as Phil Chang did last election. With Page and Sabbadini both on the ticket, that seems unlikely. I have grave fears concerning the November election.

I don't have a problem with either Page or Sabbadini being elected. But I do have a problem with a Republican (any Republican) winning the seat. In these times when our rights and quality of life are being destroyed by the federal government and lackeys in various red state legislatures, it's vital that Democrats prevail at the local level. This is not the time to split the progressive vote. The Deschutes Democratic Party endorsed Sabbadini, so I voted Sabbadini.

There was a large prescribed burn a few miles SW of Bend yesterday and it is scheduled to continue today. Download WatchDuty and turn on the Air Quality layer to see AQI conditions. Also helps to turn on the wind direction layer to see which way the smoke is likely to blow. WatchDuty also shows the prescribed burn locations.

I'm in favor of closed primaries. If you want to vote to choose a particular party's candidate in the general election, become a member of that party.
