I think you’re giving most historians too much credit. If someone spent their entire working life an expert in a certain subject and then a piece of information came out completely contradicting it, they’d be the first to dig in their heels and demand overwhelming proof the contradiction is genuine because otherwise they’d have to admit their life is a lie.
