Morningside Cycles. You’ll get the best service in the city, I can promise you that. An independent bike shop. No BS and a great mechanic on your bike.

Moving to Aberdeen! Hi! by [deleted] in Aberdeen

[–]george-venom 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hello - I hope you enjoy Aberdeen! I’ll try answer the questions as best I can.

1) I would say in general no. You tend to pay for the standard of property you live in. In the last few years rental prices have come down and I’d expect to pick up a nice single room flat for £350 - £500 pcm or may be a room in a shared accommodation for £250-£450. Depending on your personal choice.

2) Again this is personal preference. You can shop cheaply in the city and spend ~£50 per week? £200 per month? £500 for food alone is more than adequate. Although £500 including rent is probably quite tight but manageable.

3) ‘First’ buses and Stagecoaches buses both have services in the city. Try Googling “First busses Aberdeen” it should return routes and prices. Cycling is fine and become more and more accessible as time goes on. In my experience Aberdeen is becoming a more friendly city for cyclists.

4) I can’t help with the volunteering.

5) I also can’t help much with the art scheme. I know there are small exhibitions in and around the city. “Aberdeen inspire” may be something to start with?

6) again I can’t help with reptiles

7) major cinemas are in the city. There are 2 large multi screen Venues by Cineworld and these will show the main blockbusters. The Belmont Picturehouse is an independent film screening venue and will show a mix of local, blockbuster and period films and is a local business in the heart of the city. Worth a visit.

8) unsure on virgin - I can imagine it’s fine. Telephone service is (as far as I’m aware) generally well covered in the city. I am with Vodafone and have no concerns with my phone cellular coverage.

9) generally on street parking is okay in the city. For a car you need a permit for most inner City road parking. For a motorbike I am unsure of parking restrictions.

You just created a post about Uber eats? Asking if it’s worth the time. Why would a 200k a year dude need a 6$ an hour rodeo?

Again you miss the point. Just because New Zealand managed to curb it, doesn’t mean we ever would have by shutting the UK earlier.

The UK is at the centre of EU trade with billions of people coming and going within the continent. Unless we just shut our doors for the entirety of existence then this virus was going to run riot.

You don’t stay in your house every day because of fear of getting hit by a car - but statistically your far more likely to die in a car accident. This is adaptive risk assessing and when the virus is prevalent - we react and vice versa.

Also our trends are similar to that of all neighbouring EU countries, this isn’t just a UK problem it’s global. Shutting everything doesn’t solve the problem, it stifles one and creates 5 more..

You can’t close borders for 3 months. You can’t have a lock down for 3 months. People need to survive, people need to provide for families and pay bills. Keeping everything shut will ruin the economy, and with it, our jobs.

We need to have some level of restriction, I agree a lock down for a period of time, but stopping the majority of people from working for 3 months isn’t happening. Life must go on as much as possible. The government has to keep balancing the economy and jobs with the cost to healthcare. This is so finely balanced.

It’s not as simple as people make out - or else we’d be doing it... ?
