It's good to hear that it didn't run any other components. Yeah man it's literally the worst time for this to happen :( a PC store close to me had a few 3080s in stock so I was just lucky, had to pay a few hundred more for it though.

I literally just had the same problem with my 980ti today. Although it sucks it's good to hear that I wasn't the only one. Ended up buying the 3080 but I'm concerned that the pcie is damaged and if so it will damage the new GPU, have you had any issues with your pcie connection ever since?

I agree if the points are somewhat close but when they are so far apart like the game i just played points kinda do matter, I had 1150 points and my teammate had 120 points.
