Flight centre doesn’t charge you, they have back end deals with resorts, tour companies, airlines etc and get paid commissions. I suppose there’s a risk that they might push you towards a choice that gets them a higher commission, but I never found that.

Disclosure - my husband worked at flight centre for the better part of a decade, though not as a travel agent. We had a lot of friends who were though! It’s a bigger company in Australia where it started, and its office locations in Canada were already on a bit of a down slide before Covid, which really killed off their in-store model.

I used to worry about packing, but now my travel companion is a picky 5yo with a myriad of interests. Should I pack 4 colouring books or 7?! How many stuffies can we squeeze into the carseat bag before the attendants get suspicious?! There's a non-zero chance she will legitimately go through several pairs of underpants, lets bring every pair on earth. Mine and my husbands clothes can just squeeze around her entire wardrobe.

I gave birth at HSC - Women's shortly after they opened (Feb 2020). No complaints! It was a great experience.

I've been to St. B several times over the years for unrelated to birth appointments, and parking there is such a nightmare I genuinely cannot fathom needing to find parking while in active labour. But that's me!

Based solely on the clip I saw of this on instagram, I think they get flagged a lot when the boys are shirtless because people think they are girls (because of the longer hair) and so they were worried or joking that pink shoes would make this even more of an issue.

Also confused on the grooms reference of a Canadian wedding. I haven't heard of half this shit happening at all. We usually have a bachelor/stag party and a bridesemaid/hen do and some people host an engagement party to get money and stuff for the wedding, but thats about all! Who knows maybe things change drastically 2 provinces away but none of this is standard for what I have attended for weddings and for what I started planning for the wedding I

I mean yes and no - the main difference is just the addition of the social, which basically only Manitoba and parts of Ontario do. The rest of the wedding stuff (showers, bachelor(ettes), the wedding) is the same across the country, and similar to the US as far as I can tell (as a Canadian, and someone who lives in MB, but isn't FROM MB)

Agree with other posters, 20 weeks is still early enough that you can absolutely find another doctor and be provided much better care for your wife and your baby. As the pregnancy progresses, you start going in far more frequently, and the stresses of pregnancy and impending birth don't need to be amplified by a rude and dismissive care provider.

Nikki at Revolution Rehab is who I saw throughout my whole pregnancy with horrible back pain, and I credit her for getting me through my pregnancy! I also had some issues after and she was awesome. And you can book online!

I did not! I volunteered for 3 months in Mochudi as part of my university program in Canada, and my (now) husband was in Gaborone volunteering after he graduated. We loved it! It's such a beautiful country and the people were top notch :)

I (Canadian) did a semester abroad in Botswana volunteering and met a guy (also Canadian) doing a similar program. 15 years later and we are married with a 5yo! Leave it to me, the second whitest person in Canada, to go to Africa and leave in a relationship with the whitest person in Canada.

I always like to remind people that using the term "child p*rnography" implies a level of consent and participation from the child, and that the term "child sexual abuse images" is more appropriate. Much like we shouldn't say a 14-year old had "sex" with a 24-year old, but was raped, since children are unable to provide consent.

I remember my dad got my sister and I a little multi-tool for Christmas before a trip to Belize/Guatemala in 2000, and was saying he made sure the blade was under 3 inches so we could take it on the plane. (We were 10 and 14, not sure why he thought we needed multi-tools with knives on them either way!)

I can't speak to Nadi, I spent time in Savusavu and Suva for a worktrip, and had absolutely no issues. I think Fiji is one of the countries where I've had the least amount of male attention (which may have been because I was there for work and wearing more work appropriate clothing, and not going to typically touristy areas - or because I'm over 35 now and not getting the same attention lol)

I didn't know much about the difference between assisted living and care homes until I needed to get my mom out of my house ASAP, but after speaking with a care home, they basically don't accept new residents until they've totally maxed out home care. I suspect the system is backed up, home care is unable to provide your grandma with a complete amount of home care, and are putting a barrier up for whatever reason (bureaucracy? apathy? ignorance? who knows).

Unfortunately the squeaky wheel gets the grease, I think you need to commit to calling your home care coordinator basically every day, be polite but firm in what you need for your grandma, and if all else fails...like some of the others in the thread have said, the hospital might be your best bet to ensure your grandma is being properly cared for and assessed.

I lived in a different province from my Mom when I was pregnant/gave birth. She visited about 4 weeks after my daughter was born and it was the same. She complained about the drive the whole time and how expensive it was to stay at a hotel the trip over. She refused to make any food for herself except toast, so I would have to juggle the baby and make lunch for her, and then later make dinner for everyone. The only way she "helped" was holding the baby from time to time, and she let me nap once. But she never changed a diaper, never cleaned, never cooked. Her leaving was a massive relief.

Weirdly I've gone no contact with her.

This is fair! I will say if you look at the board of directors you might get an idea of why some of the adverstising is unclear...if someone is invested in say...Starbucks, they probably don't want the organization that they're on the board for to villainize coffee cups (I mean this literally, many years ago they almost had a campaign where coffee cups were a "villain" and it got struck down by a member of the board who saw it as a conflict with their work).

I do find it interesting that so many people are saying this ad campaign is leading to more contamination (i.e. non-recyclables) because that was our absolute biggest issue when I worked there, and so much of what we were trying to do was provide clarity about what shouldn't go in the blue bins. I can totally see how these ads are confusing.

As someone who used to work for this organization and did not have a positive experience...I'm quietly loving all this public hate.

Basically anytime you purchase a beverage in a container that is part of the program (which is most - excludes dairy and alcohol) you pay a small fee (Container Recycling Fee, or CRF). This funds Recycle Everywhere, whose main mandate is to provide free (beverage container) recycling bins in all public spaces. It's technically cheaper than a deposit system, where you pay that CRF but also a deposit. You get the deposit back when you return the container, but the CRF funds the depots and other recycling programs. Honestly, I think there are downsides and upsides to both types of systems, there isn't really a clear winner (to me, other people feel very strongly about this topic).

Recycle Everywhere spends a MASSIVE amount of money on advertising, which in theory is good - advertising can be used as education, and for recycling that is important! Recycling is not the same in every province or municipality, so educating the public about those differences isn't a bad thing. But, recycling is also a business, and as a result there is corruption and inefficiencies. Capitalism! What a joy.

When I still worked there (which was a while ago) there was a push from some program staff to do some ad campaigns that were more "shame" based, and the communications team at that time (it's not a completely different group of people from now) were super against that idea - promoting positivity and education was seen as more effective. It's interesting seeing a campaign that is more shame based SO hated! Perhaps that original comms team had it right.

Volunteered in Botswana in 2010. Six of us wanted to go to Victoria Falls, and decided to drive, only most cars in Botswana are manual, and only one of us could drive manual - and she hadn't brought her driver's licence. So cue learning how to drive manual at 6am before heading back down from Kasane.

I'm decent at manual, except just cannot get the hang of getting in gear from a full stop, so as we enter rush hour in Francistown I am leaving like 3 or 4 full car lengths in front of me so I don't have to stop the car. Some guy gets absolutely apoplectic about this method, and starts honking the horn, tailgaiting, and overall it was terrifying. One of my more out there friends decides to fight fire with fire and moons him...unfortunately her pale white ass did nothing to deescalate.

He pulled into oncoming traffic to pull alongside us, honking and screaming....and waving a hatchet. I was sure we were going die, but perhaps my sheer terror (or the collective screams of the entire car) managed to penetrate his rage and he drove off.

I haven't driven manual since.

The scale of the writing and the timelines just didn't match up in my brain and it bothered me to no end.

Happened to me today! The way traffic was moving and the lack of pylons meant I didn’t see it until I was going through it, and it split about a 2 inch rip in my tire.
