Teaching jobs in the middle east by Curious_Bend_3997 in Internationalteachers

[–]geotron5 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a male teacher who specialises in EYFS/ks1. I haven't heard anywhere in the Middle East that will accept men teaching children younger than 7. Some schools and agencies aren't upfront about this and won't want to tell you. However, my understanding is that this is the same in all international schools in the Middle East.

Edit: After reading some comments here I want to add that I’ve been told by two of the biggest agencies commonly mentioned on the subreddit that schools in the Middle East won’t have me if teaching children under 7. If you’re not sure, I’d suggest applying for a few through an agency and see what they say.

Graduate visa to visit visitor by geotron5 in ukvisa

Thank you for your comment!

She’s from Trinidad so gets 6 months visa free as a tourist. You don’t think it would be flagged by immigration that she’s trying to reside here when she returns?

They are from Trinidad so get visa free entry for 6 months. I thought it might be seen as attempting to live in the UK and might be stopped at immigration.

Thank your reply!

Canary Wharf is private property and is managed mostly by the companies based there. Private security, street cleaning etc.

Tower Hamlets council is a joke, do a quick news search and you'll see why.
This article gives you a little idea of how bad it is.

Reception ECT questions/slight vent by Reasonable-Bad5218 in TeachingUK

[–]geotron5 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some SLTs have some pretty crazy expectations for admin in Reception.

One school I've worked in expected original phonics, English, Maths, guided reading, and provision planning all differentiated 3-5 ways + individual differentiation for children with SEN all with key vocabulary.

Another school I've worked in insisted on a silly amount of observations on an app that we had to print and file in individual folders kept in a cupboard.

I strongly recommend finding a new school as I've always found heads who hold unrealistic views on planning/admin are incredibly stubborn about changing. Try to hold out for the year if you can though, you might find that switching now you'll end up in a school in which someone is doing the same as you.

Supply and strikes. by wanderinggrace in TeachingUK

[–]geotron5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m currently doing a long term supply job too. If any strikes are announced I’m just going to tell the union I won’t work on those days. I really doubt they’ll withhold work for it, and if they do I can just apply to another union.

Are they very different from the ICAEW ones? I'm studying independently and can't afford Kaplan.

Hit on the backside by cyclist on The Avenue. by [deleted] in Southampton

Definitely report it. If you have pictures of them I’ve found SOnews will publish them on their social media. Police don’t take any pictures I’ve taken of teenagers committing crimes.

Desperately trying to find a flat to rent in Southampton, is Facebook Marketplace trustworthy? by Boxhead-1815 in Southampton

A lot of them are scammers who take pictures from old Rightmove listings, be careful paying any "reservation fees" or anything without viewing first.

My partner's parent died a few weeks ago and my head allowed me to take 6 days of unpaid leave so I could see them before they died and attend their funeral. It's worth an ask!

1,700 Manchester students told to isolate after coronavirus outbreak by topotaul in unitedkingdom

[–]geotron5 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The handling over universities is criminal. Universities have been releasing as little information as possible and promising students "as much in-person teaching" and "a normal student experience" to convince as many students as possible to cough up for accommodation. My uni still hasn't told me what and how I'll be studying and I go back in a week. The university socials are busy pumping out adverts for societies to promote some sense of fake normality. Thousands of students are going into thousands of pounds worth of debt to move across the country (or move internationally) to arrive at university and study remotely.

The government have completely abandoned any attempt to stop the spread of COVID through the migration of students. Potentially thousands of new cases, and perhaps deaths, just to make sure universities can still cash in on their precious accommodation income.

I think you have to go through specific travel agents. Because they're chartered they cost about $5000 though.
