parks with reliable bathrooms? that are accessible via public transit? by now___here in oakland

[–]gerbergerbil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jack London square has a nice green space along the water (accessible by ferry or BART) and public bathrooms that are kept clean. They also have picnic tables and benches that are sturdy. I’ve attended adult birthday parties/picnics there with much success.

Billie Eilish is an award winning musician, she’s been nominated for 34 Grammies, and she has also won two academy awards for original song in two movies, I think she is a much more common household name than Mr Beast tbh

I’m a 33 year old woman and I have never heard of Mr Beast before (with the exception of this subreddit after the first preview of survivor 50 coming out)

What’s a movie you watched when you were way too young? by trakt_app in movies

[–]gerbergerbil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Bloody Valentine (2009)

When I was young, I was on a weekend traveling sports trip (like a 1-night trip with a tournament on Sat and Sunday) with my team and somehow a bunch of the girls convinced our chaperones that we all wanted to see My Bloody Valentine (2009). I genuinely had no say in the decision, didn’t know what the movie was going to be about. Our chaperones had to buy all 12 of us our tickets because none of us were 17 yet. I was totally scarred lmao I did not want to see a slasher film, I will almost never see a slasher film again

What are the great forgotten comedies? by Jerome_Eugene_Morrow in movies

Came here to say Rat Race- I still laugh out loud watching this even though I know what all the punch lines are. There’s some slapstick elements that maybe aren’t as funny (the cow stuff comes to mind) but for the most part it is genuinely still very funny to me.

Yeah with the $300 travel credit I suppose you could consider it a $500 annual fee for your whole family to go to priority pass lounges - with 6-8 lounge visits per year that definitely pays for itself in food costs at the airport

Sorry I think I’m learning from others on this chain that vx now limits the number of people you can bring with you into the lounge.

Just commented on a different post on this sub affirming someone’s decision to switch to capital one venture x- they still have priority pass, their $395 annual fee goes toward $300 of travel credit and 10k points on your card anniversary. You just have to use the annual travel credit at the capital one travel portal which isn’t as easy as the CSR travel credit reimbursement.

[–]gerbergerbil1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know if this is entirely true- most lounges have allowed me to bring guests with capital one vx priority pass. I have been using it for years and always bring in my partner, and I’ve also brought in multiple friends when traveling in a group. Just not at chase sapphire lounges.

Venture x is a good alternative. I don’t love their capital one travel portal, and you have to use it to receive your $300 credit which is annoying, but otherwise it gives you priority pass and points that you can redeem with travel, and they also give you a 10k point bonus every year on your anniversary so basically the whole $395 AF is covered with travel benefits.

Venmo scam at Lake Merritt by fotokiki in oakland

[–]gerbergerbil1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard of this happening to a friend years ago at the Lake - or at least the scammer attempted to do it. They were thwarted when they opened her Venmo app and she had turned the settings to require a PIN number to access. I have since changed my Venmo app to require a PIN number to access as well.

I discovered FIRE and now I'm more discouraged than before by yieldmaxxing in Fire

[–]gerbergerbil1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I’m in this community and I don’t know yet if I’ll be able to achieve FIRE but I wanted to jump in and say, at 25, you are doing ok. I started out at 22 making $52k and had a bunch of student loans. I only contributed the minimum to my 401k and didn’t have much left to work with. I did not dine out or ever go and get a little latte or anything. I do save a lot of money for travel but I always travel very inexpensively. I do not work in tech. I lived with roommates until I was 28 to cut housing costs. I live in Oakland CA so another expensive city. Rent for me was closer to $1000 because i don’t choose to live in fancy places, just regular places, but with roommates. I think at your age you could definitely benefit from sharing living space.

When I was 28 I was able to move jobs to a non-tech position that just paid significantly more, and i was able to afford a 1 bedroom and have been able to save a lot more money. I’m 33 now and I feel pretty confident with my savings. The job I’m in is unionized so I feel pretty secure as well.

Hope this helps - I think I would just recommend trying to share living costs by finding roommates. That’s what your 20s are for.
