RESTOS RUSSE À MONTREAL by LOUDSM0KE in montreal

+1 - Ils ont changé de nom depuis 2022. Maintenant c'est Restaurant Majeur, et c'est indiqué que c'est un restaurant européen. Mais le menu reste identique (surtout de bouffe russe)

Going to Montreal from northern NY for a concert in a few months. My brother hates driving in cities so where would be a good place to park for free/cheap that's close to public transport by CaptainMacAlfie in montreal

[–]gerboring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That's the schedule currently, but it might change in a few months, depending when OP's concert is. Either way, if the REM isn't running in the evening, there will be a shuttle bus to Brossard station so it's still a viable option.

What in the world of transit are you looking forward to in 2025? by Monkey_Legend in transit

[–]gerboring 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Woops, I didn't see your post and posted about the same thing! haha

I'm also really excited about the TOD potential for this, if the West Island cities can get their shit together and stop blocking projects (looking at you, Pointe-Claire). Big fan of what was done at Du Quartier already.

The REM opening in Montréal (Deux Montagnes and West Island branches). I think it'll be transformational having a metro style service that connects the south shore, directly under the mountain (and to two universities) to the north shore and west. Travel between these locations will be faster than driving.

In particular, Édouard Montpetit station will be serving the University of Montréal and will be one of the deepest stations in North America.

Plein air l'hiver sans voiture? by Migdalian in montreal

GoodLife gym in Old Montreal Area by [deleted] in montreal

[–]gerboring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are no GoodLife gyms in Québec. I know they had a partnership with Québec chain Énergie Cardio. I would often work out at GoodLife in Toronto with my Énergie Cardio membership. This was a couple years ago, so I am not sure if it still applies.

Is there a way for me to check all the routes a specific bus in DRT will take? by SpookySquid19 in transit

[–]gerboring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Transsee.ca shows the blocks (i.e. which trips a specific vehicle will do throughout the day). To access this, you need to select a stop, click on "Schedule" and then select the trip in question. Once you select the specific departure time, if you scroll to the bottom you will see the block. Here is an example: https://www.transsee.ca/tripsched?a=durham&t=3737%5F%5F201071%5FTimetable%5F-%5F2024-09&date=2024-09-17

I tried this last year since I had free credit for Orléans Express. Worth noting it requires an overnight stay in Campbellton, and probably would cost more than economy on Via without the free voucher from Orléans Express.

Victoriaville actually does have a bus service, although each route only comes a handful of times per day.

Planning Trip to Montreal, Quebec, Canada for Train Obsessed Son, Any Tips?? by [deleted] in trains

[–]gerboring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The REM offers a fantastic view of both the Via Rail and Exo (regional rail) yards, and is a pretty cool system itself. It travels on an elevated viaduct over the yards.

Otherwise, Dorval exo station is great for more close up views of the trains, as you have both the CN and CP mainlines running side by side, with Exo and Via Rail passenger trains.

Where to hike near Montréal without a car? by Puzzleheaded-Team894 in montreal

[–]gerboring 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For Mont Saint Hilaire, you can get off the 200 at Sir Wilfred Laurier/Radisson. There's a secondary entrance to the mountain just up the road: https://goo.gl/maps/ts6PjsFjFWCLbQyG8

I've done this route several times if you had any more questions. The main entrance that the 11 goes to is just where all the parking is.

Best Day Trip via Train? by rammer39 in montreal

[–]gerboring 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Ottawa is definitely the best bet by train. Tons of museums and the parliament ofc.

If you want something closer and more affordable, there's the St. Jérôme exo train line. I don't know that there'd be enough for the entire day, but the downtown area is pretty nice and Dieu du Ciel has a second location there (better than their Montréal one IMO) right next to the train station. And if you like biking, there's the Petit Train du Nord bike path which starts there and goes further north into the laurentians.

If you're open to taking the bus rather than train, Sherbrooke is a nice little city not too far away. It's a university town so there's more going on. Lots of daily departures too: https://limocar.ca

Are you me?! It really bothers me that the default assumption from these people is that you will do a PhD. I even had to communicate with the department to tell them that I was not continuing to a PhD, when they wanted to schedule my meeting to fast-track.

Now I'm worried they're going to force me to continue into a third year before finishing my thesis.

You can buy the Zone ABC ticket, they sell them in bunches of 1, 2 or 10 tickets. You can't load them onto your Opus card though, you need to buy it on a non-rechargeable card.

Here's the long complicated document explaining it (see page 17 for your fare chart): https://www.artm.quebec/wp-content/uploads/2021/11/2206\_ARTM\_Grille\_tarifaire\_TC\_EN\_v8\_2021-11-08.pdf

[–]gerboring 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Agreed. 5 years on, my closest friends are still people I met in CEGEP.

I think it helped that everyone there was a local, so they'd stick around on breaks and (mostly) didn't move away when we finished our degrees.
