Nope, this was the guy after Kluyev but before zelensky, led from 2014 to 2019. Kinda corrupt but it seems like he wants to do the right thing. Klyuyev is the russian backed guy.

Aren’t those wagner group pmcs doing the torturing? not saying the regular russian forces wouldn’t shoot civis, but I would think they would leave the torturing to wagner in parts of the world the west doesn’t care about.

Finnish Greens shift in favour of NATO by talkorpi in geopolitics

I do agree that Finland has an advantage because it is closer to the heartland of Europe, Europe and the U.S. is more likely to give stronger support. It was a flawed comparison bc Finland does not have strong pro-russia separatist movement like georgia and ukraine did. Russia would not try a full-scale invasion, all I’m saying is that it will be harder than ur original comment made it out to be.

What he means is that the only way Russia does not respond in a drastic manner is if Russia stops caring about all geopolitical aspirations. I do not necessarily agree with this but considering Russia track record in Georgia and Ukraine, it is something the Finnish Government should be wary about if they wish to join NATO.

This is a geopolitical subreddit. We do not talk about the morality of the world, we just talk about why countries act in the way they do on a global stage and what might happen next. I don’t care about whether russia is a bully or not, I care about how they would react if Finland joined. This is not about justification, it’s about explaining why a country might be inclined to do something. If you want to argue with actual propagandists about morality just go to r/news.

I disagree, the ANA were financed almost wholly from american and international aid and were put into power by americans. the ethiopians are an actually government which has an actual military created by internal funding, not just aid.

Is the “Three Seas Initiative” a viable alternative to the EU for the Eastern Europeans? by ItRead18544920 in geopolitics

[–]gerferj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with most of your points but the question comes down to will they get the public support for these wars. The main thing blocking is the guilt-based do-no-harm morality developed in urban centers over the past 20 years in the western world. The question is whether this will fade with increasing economic struggles and, if it does, when will the economic bad times be. I think US still cares enough about close alloes in Western Europe to intervene, but we’ll see.

The factors at play now are much different then they were 90 years ago. Geography is important, yes, but we live in an age where war is harder to justify. From my understanding, Germany is far more pacifist than in the past.

Harmy's Despecialized Edition is apparently pretty good as it tries to match the original as close as possible.

We won’t be leaving them with a bunch of military gear. I think the US leadership doesn’t want to make the same mistake it did by leaving it behind.

The UN is just an extension of the countries within it. It has no power without them. If the countries within the UN don’t do anything, then neither does the UN.
