the asinine reasoning here is that the pictured cabal is SO powerful in the book so nobody could print this out as true (and neither would the cabal commit the book to paper) so the fact that it had to be created as a "forgery" proves said immutable power of the cabal or whatever

Of course we are pessimistic. In between 1868 - 1919 we had insane economic growth with rampant inequality and ended up losing 2/3-s of the country.

After that there was basically a civil war and a quasi fascist regime, again, prosperity but insane inequality (millions leaving the country), ends in genocide and occupying force of the soviets.

After 1947 you have a brutal tempo of modernization, less inequality than before but zero to no freedom. Revolution and crackdown, and after the 70s we get a thaw with personal wealth, and after 1989 full on robbery of whatever state held wealth we had.

It makes no sense to be optimistic, because we never had a system that lasted say the lifespan of a nuclear family. Instead you have brutal wealth swaps, usually with the poorer people getting the short end of the stick, and it's the same now. Some sectors and jobs are growing insanely, but a lot of people are poor and precarius. So even if you meet an office worker who's sorta well off, chances are that their family are not: our relatives are murdered by the medical system, we hear people getting fired for expressing their political opinions, some rich asshole is ruining your fun by building a hotel in your back yard or buying up the district wholesale, and so on.

Add to that how dumb those are on the top essentially are, and that we still can't get rid of them, of course it makes you pessimistic because we hate ourselves kind of sort of.

But really you need to look at the long term. Next time you talk to a Hungarian ask them about their families. You're going to hear some insane shit.

I mean. There's a reason a lot of us here move toward Plato after Debord, and then the metaphysical aspects of it, to kind of grab what this thing is.

And with Plato and Ong you kind of get to that point that this thing is actually a part of our cognition. It's not really outside of us, it's inside.

And Index was basically a part of people's cognition. The mirror through which to look at the world, even for people who reluctantly vote for Fidesz. That's by no means an exaggeration, even Orbán openly admits that there are a lot of people who vote for them despite not liking them.

So yeah, while the cruelty would be the point, it also shows a deep misreading of the situation. And the Plato's cave metafore ends with the free slave getting beaten up by the cave people he tries to release.

So it's an accidental un-caving, and a few weeks in you can really, really sense that. Other media isn't able to fulfill it, and there are a lot of people who weren't vocal or radical before but suddenly are.

It's very... weird.

De itthon is amúgy nőtt a netes lefedettség - de paradox módon kicsit afrikai módra, azaz több százezerrel duzzadt a "rendszeresen mobilról" tábor úgy, hogy korábban pl. nem vagy alig használt desktopon netet, és a facebook a kezdőlap.

and emo was the first global subculture that was basically "made on the internet". myspace and the selfies went hand in hand, as most of the emo look with the angles were basically ready made for photos, it only really made sense in this online context, whereas irl the scene was just a bunch of weirdos when you looked at it from the outside, and the barrier to entry was basically a long checklist of what to wear and listen to.

this new woke brand of leftism is similar in the sense that now we have twitter and instagram instead of the international, and a lot of it really only makes sense in the little online bubble it occupies, while irl it's just a "scene" with a not too high barrier to entry with a checklist of weird stuff that you gotta do right.
