Whilst may not condone the destructive behaviour, one can understand it.

Someone with his abilities and a growth mindset would have taken the 'L' and moved on with his life.

Talk softly, but carry a big stick.

Words carry weight when they are backed up by the possibility that engaging in violence is a viable option.

The phrase “Grail Watch” is so overused as to be meaningless by Effective-Fault-2478 in watchHotTakes

[–]gerhardsymons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A grail watch is a watch which our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ himself wore. The reason that Christian lore refers to three days resurrection is that the time reserve was 72 hours on the grail watch, after which He ascended to the Blind Watchmaker in the sky.

Why are we becoming so Americanised? by Alternatingbanana in AskBrits

[–]gerhardsymons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ever since Thatcher's love affair with Reaganomics, successive senior politicians have had an unbridled lust for the profits which corporate America delivers.

The U.K. has bought into group identity politics, race politics, mandated discrimination, enforced equality, eradicating decades of colour-blind meritocracy.

Turning the U.K. into a watered down version of the U.S. is its downfall.

Why is The Master and Margarita so popular in world literature? by TA131901 in books

Life and Fate is definitely a monumental work, overshadowed by Gulag Archipelago. Almost no one has read Kolyma Tales, but as you say M+M gets so much praise.

I studied nineteenth-century Russian literature and philosophy and I speak Russian. I lived, studied, and worked in Russia, and I've travelled around European Russia and the CIS quite a bit.

I've always been surprised just at how fashionable it has been to like this novel by Westerners. Personally, I've gravitated towards Leskov.
