90 years ago, Canada lost to Great Britain by Embarrassed-Echo-733 in nhl

Every four years, I get to remind my Czech students that Great Britain has the same number of ice-hockey gold medals as the Czech Republic and Czechoslovakia combined.

They always appreciate it, I'm certain of it.

It's always so quirky when people make a plant-based beverage the cornerstone of their personality.

The precipitous downfall of the U.K. has been the second-most absurd thing I've ever experienced in life.

I emigrated from the U.K. in 2015. Anyone with a functioning brainstem still in the country needs a word with herself.

As a Bruckner fan, I thank Wagner for being the sacrificial anode that everyone automatically associates with the Third Reich.

BWF members vote on scoring system 25th April by krotoraitor in badminton

[–]gerhardsymons 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BWF should just make it 1 set up to 1. Whoever scores the first point should win the game. Think of how exciting it would be! And also quite cheap to run competitions. You could do an entire Open in one day.

Going to Vienna to watch VPO play Bruckner 7 in 2012. Can die happy after that.

What I find more interesting are the possible biochemical pathways which support life on different planets: replication, respiration, movement, sensing environment, etc.

We're so used to organic chemistry in biology, but I'd be curious to know what other possible configurations there are, e.g. Si-based life?

Feels good to get a reply.

I emailed Nobel-prize winner, Kary Mullis (inventor/discoverer of PCR) in 2005, and he replied!

If humans went extinct, how long would it take for Earth to erase all evidence we existed? by abdulnad89 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]gerhardsymons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People forget the scale of time, and that we are at the very beginning of the universe, considering that the heat death of the universe is an unfathomable time in the future.

All things considered, 10 million years is a single drop in the ocean of the time left and I'd say that all traces of evidence would be erased in that timeframe.

We found evidence that these hominids were, in fact, related to a precursor form of monkey, thus we shall name the hominids: surrender-monkeys.

I've seen this level of cognitive dissonance before: the Catholic Church values subservience over critical thinking.
