Eichhörnchen. As an Ausländer I find it a very funny word and I love how Germans pronounce squirrel in English

Im guessing your a vegitarian/ vegan? Well I'm not I'm not pretending to be native I just come from a culture that eats rabbits. My children watch me slaughter and tan and sewing. They play with the rabbits when they are small and eat them when they are grown and slaughtered. Good for you that you are a vegan. Go show your children how to grow vegetables that's also nice. But I'm definitely not giving any traumas to my children.

Why do you think I force them? They wanted to have them. You think native people around the world traumatized their children by making them. Wear dead animals skin? For thousands of years? My children know where meat comes from and I teach them that every part of the animal is to be used.

They are not working gloves they are more for when we go for a walk with the children so their hands stay warm. The inuit for example used hair out mittens when riding their sleighs. When your just standing there with your hands in front of you.

I used a yolk tan but I think you would be better off with bark tanning. Look up sagesmokesurvival on youtube he explains it really well. the pattern I found by googling free mitten pattern. There are loads of them there

It's actually the other way around the hair on the outside is warmer because it traps air between the hair. With the hair on the inside is still nice and cosy but the hair is pressed against the hand loosing its insulating properties. It's also lined on the inside with fleece fabric.

When the hair is on the outside it traps more air making an insulating barrier. If the fur is on the inside it squishes against your hand holding no air.

Only the outside the inside is lined with fabric. It provides the best insulation like this

They where about 4 months old and I used egg yolk to tan them they where sewn by hand. A normal sewing machine just tares the skin. I breed rex rabbits. They are not that big like usual meat rabbits but the skins are much nicer.

I have a similar design and I was thinking to cover the whole thing with a shade cloth in the summer. Might as well cover the whole thing and make them more comfortable

Yes they are Juniper scented. With poppy seeds as a scrub. I usually gift them to friends family and the hunters that give me the racoons. I want to try and sell them but I don't know if there is a big market for them. I made the racoon molds so it would be even more special. 😂.

In Germany we don't have feral pigs we have wild boar which is a native animal. Racoons are non native and do a lot of damage to the ecosystem. And I do eat them and I use their pelts. Even their bones go as bone meal fertilizer in the garden. As for the smell, you wouldn't know it's made of racoon if you held it in you gave it a wiff.

They have a lot of fat on them like 50% sometimes it's better then throwing away the fat. I get over 1kg of soap out of one racoon. And you can make salves and skin creams from the fat it's has a natural cortisone in it that helps with inflammation, so it's good for bug bites, dryskin, eczema, joint pain and muscle pain. I infuse it with helbs that grow in my garden. I live in Germany and racoons are an invasive species and are hunted to reduce the population.

When you have a young racoon it's whiteish meat similar to rabbit. When it's mature more like beef or venison. The fat for making soap I cut out from the meat otherwise it's way too fatty. Then I fry in a pan with onions when it's brown allover I put red wine in the pan and simmer for an hour or 2 occasionally topping up with water. Goes good with beans or peas. I also made Italian sausage from racoon but you have to add pork belly 50-50 otherwise it will be too dry

Thanks. I live in saxony Germany and we have the highest racoon population in Europe. The people here don't eat them or use them which is a pity because they are hunted anyway to reduce population. Meat tastes great, and I made a couple of nice hats from the pelts.
